My fiance and I planned our 4th anniversary date late in the month of March. Our anniversary is March 10th, but Robin Williams will be in St. Louis, and I really freakin' love Robin.

So, we bought tickets for his March 30th show. The ONLY day that he will be here. We planned this about a month ago.

This week, he got hired in a warehouse, and talked to his boss about taking that day off, since we already bought our tickets and have it planned, and they're refusing to let him off on that day.

Apparently, he isn't allowed ANY days off until he works there for a year, and can get in trouble for sick days as well.

Can they really do that? I have been SO excited over seen Robin next month, and now, they're saying I can't go? I mean...I would HAPPILY take my baby sister with me, but she's only 13 and if any of you have seen Robin Williams' stand up stuff....lol. You'll understand. Not something I want to watch with family. A bit awkward, really.

And I'm not...much of a social person, and the friends I do have don't share the same tastes with me, so I don't want to drag along a friend, and besides. It wouldn't feel right. This was supposed to be a night for jsut me and my fiance. We rarely get time to OURSELVES and we were excited about this.

I just feel like crying because now that he's working 8-12 hour shifts all day in a warehouse, we're REALLY gonna hardly get to see each other, or spend quality time together. And now, our anniversary date is ruined.

I would tell him to just call in sick, but I don't want him to do that. This job pays pretty decent for a kid with no college education and has nice benefits. I just can't believe they wouldn't allow him to take a single day off, a month from now.

That's how my job was last year. I had tickets to the Indy500, and they told me that if I started working before the race, then I wouldnt get the day off (I hadn't figured out when my start day would be yet). I ended up telling them I couldnt start until the month after (for different reasons), but partially it would have really made me mad if I had the tickets and then couldnt go... and ya, they can pretty much do what they want, cause they can always find someone new to hire if you don't do what they want...

It's not like Robin Williams is 70 or so, he'll be back - your fiance should consider himself lucky he has a good job, as so many are out of work!

Is it a Monday through Friday job? If not could he possibly get someone to switch days with him?

I was going to say.. With the economy the way it is, I'd be careful about him calling in sick. I'm sure they can put two and two together and figure out that was the day he wanted off. There are so many people out there right now looking for a job that he could easily be replaced. And full time jobs aren't like part time where it's easier to get off when you want. You're expected to be there the hours that they want you to be.

Is there any way he could swap hours with someone? Sometimes places will allow that.

oooh. I totally forgot about the swapping hours thing. I think they can do that, because he just did it like..yesterday or so.

And yeah. He was really lucky to get this job, and I don't want him to lose it. He's finally got some money in his pocket now and, even though he's worn out after work, he's happy again. I'm just glad to finally see him happy again.

I'll ask him and see if he can try to switch hours with someone.

And yeah, I know Robin Williams will be back in town someday, but it's the fact that we've gotten this all planned out, and then his boss just flat out says no.

And I'm stubborn and hard-headed. When I get my mind set on doing something, I will find a way to do it. xD

I know in my state they can by law tell you that, as PA is an at will state and you take the job knowing the terms. The only thing they can't do here is the points system for calling off. My current employer will fire you if you have more then 2 days sick on a 90 day trial period.

I was thinking the same thing. I can really understand your disappointment, but I would not do anything to make his boss upset. This is sort of where you gotta be an adult and know that in the long run, it might be better for him to keep his job, lol :)

He's not 70, but he is 55. It shouldn't be about age... 20,30, 40 yr olds die every day. What does age have to do with it?

I say you should go whether it's with him or not, despite the general consensus this MIGHT be a once in a life time event for you, even if you go with someone else.

Have him ask his boss if he can make up the time, or switch shifts with someone.

It's not worth him loosing his job over, which you already know. But I'm sure he'd want you to go even if he can't.

Okay I'm just jumping in here to say first:Zie you and your fiance live together so an anniversary is just a date--you're with the love of your life, everyday is an anniversary.

And second, try to NEVER pass up the chance to see someone you want--I had the chance to see Elvis when I was 14 but my parents said told my uncle to take his girlfriend at the time because I was 14 and would have plenty of chances to see Elvis. Well that was Elvis' last concert--no one saw him in concert again after that. It's the biggest regret of my life and sometimes I feel like kicking my parents in the rump for that one!

I agree with Laurie (big surprise there, eh?) - I'd do my best to try and get him to switch, and if not, then I'd go myself. There is no WAY I would miss Robin Williams if I had tickets to see him. I'd give my eye teeth to get to see him live in concert, and I wouldn't miss it for anything.

I also agree with Nicole - what does his age have to do with it? I still wouldn't pass up an opportunity to see him. The man is a genius.

If the other half can't go, can you sell the ticket? At least recoup some of your money? I see people selling concert tickets on CL all the time.

To Laurie:

We actually don't live together, lol. I probably sounds like it does, but we don't. We just try to spend as much time together as possible. He loves having me around, and I love taking care of him. Haha.

I am going to find a way though. After actually hanging out with my little sister and her friends, I realized...she had dirty humor just like me. And knows about things I didn't think she would know about yet. xD So maybe I might take her with me, if Aaron can't make it.

I know what you guys mean about not knowing what the future holds. It seems all the amazing actors and comedians are getting older and older so quickly and passing away. I would be so upset if Robin Williams passed away in the near future. He is my favourite comedian, and always has been.

Zie I thought you and Aaron were living together--sorry! But still you're together so look at it like an anniversary everyday LOL! But I do think you should definitely go even if he can't because you know my Elvis sob story. I think taking your sister would be a great idea, only if you can't work something out for the two of you to go. Sisterhood is a beautiful thing!

PS STILL waiting on those cherry charms LOL!

I hope he didnt get the day off or switch yet..

HOLLYWOOD - Robin Williams has postponed the remainder of his "Weapons of Self-Destruction Tour" to undergo surgery for aortic valve replacement.

The tour is expected to resume in the fall, according to a release sent this afternoon from his publicist. It's been reported that the actor is in a Miami hospital, however Williams' publicist would not confirm his location.

"I'm so touched by everyone's support and well wishes," said Williams in the release. "This tour has been amazing fun and I can't wait to get back out on the road after a little tune-up."

Speculation on the medical condition of Williams had been rampant after the comedian canceled two shows at the Seminole Hard Rock & Casino in Hollywood

I know. I just heard. Calling Aaron now. I really hope he does back back on the road after he get some needed rest.

I'm pretty embarrassed right now because I was on Skype chatting with my friends from like...across the U.S. and started crying when I found out. xD

Not to rain on you parade, but I've read on Perez Hilton he's sick in the hospital and he's cancelling his tour.

sorry I didn't see it was posted.
