Another factor to consider is if you do get a chinmate, then your chins will probably pay less attention to you since they have another chin to have fun with... I also heard stories about supposedly 'bonded' chins that suddenly get into fights one day and worse even causing death. Not sure why...

I only know of apple twigs so I'll let others provide more advice re healthy snacks. Probably not a good idea to buy any snacks at the pet store in general. Yes, raisins are not good, please refrain. They probably will shorten a chin's life over time.

+1 Raisins are really bad. Chins love sweet stuff and will nibble/eat anything. They should have a really boring diet consisting of water/grass/pellets, that's it. I think that you can have unlimited safe snacks like apple twigs, which are good for his teeth, but other than that, his diet...

Hmm, there will probably be better advice on the way but you need to have him used to you and trust you enough for him to permit you to carry him before you actually consider letting him out of the cage. This way, you don't have to chase him to put him back into the cage. As you mentioned...

+1 For such a small animal, they are EXTREMELY intelligent, always trying to find the best escape route. I liken them to the raptors from those Jurassic movies, trying to test the electric fence for areas of weakness lol. They must be supervised all the time, even in supposedly safe areas...

That is one cute chin and cute name! Enjoy your playtime with him. If he is jumping on you, maybe you can sit low or lie on the ground, so if he does slip off and hit the ground, there is less distance. What a cutie, I love that name too, 'Tofu' lol. More pix if possible! :)

That is sad to learn...that our province previously had some good breeders but now they are all gone. Thank you for the rescue work that you are doing. It is very admirable. I am presently not ready to take in a chin but will definitely consider a rescue besides buying one from a reputable...

Did the good breeders just move away? If so, do you have their contacts? Or did they stop breeding? Thanks, I may consider rescue if the time comes for another chin.

I'm still puzzled by the lack of background checks from otherwise reputable breeders. For example, I'm also a member of a dog forum and reputable breeders there definitely will do a check. Obviously it's not 100% foolproof, but at least the effort is there to try to filter out some undesirable...
