    Hello everyone!

    What a cutie! Welcome!

    my chin is lonely..

Another factor to consider is if you do get a chinmate, then your chins will probably pay less attention to you since they have another chin to have fun with... I also heard stories about supposedly 'bonded' chins that suddenly get into fights one day and worse even causing death. Not sure why...

    Question about holding chins

I only know of apple twigs so I'll let others provide more advice re healthy snacks. Probably not a good idea to buy any snacks at the pet store in general. Yes, raisins are not good, please refrain. They probably will shorten a chin's life over time.

    chin pics

Love seeing chin pix. I especially love this one below...how old is the little one inside that pottery thing?

    Question about holding chins

+1 Raisins are really bad. Chins love sweet stuff and will nibble/eat anything. They should have a really boring diet consisting of water/grass/pellets, that's it. I think that you can have unlimited safe snacks like apple twigs, which are good for his teeth, but other than that, his diet...

    Question about holding chins

Hmm, there will probably be better advice on the way but you need to have him used to you and trust you enough for him to permit you to carry him before you actually consider letting him out of the cage. This way, you don't have to chase him to put him back into the cage. As you mentioned...

To roam or not to roam

+1 For such a small animal, they are EXTREMELY intelligent, always trying to find the best escape route. I liken them to the raptors from those Jurassic movies, trying to test the electric fence for areas of weakness lol. They must be supervised all the time, even in supposedly safe areas...

    Holding a baby chinchilla

That is one cute chin and cute name! Enjoy your playtime with him. If he is jumping on you, maybe you can sit low or lie on the ground, so if he does slip off and hit the ground, there is less distance. What a cutie, I love that name too, 'Tofu' lol. More pix if possible! :)

Keeps trying to get out of cage

She sounds like a cutie! Yes, please be careful and make sure that the cage is secure. Have fun with your new chin!

    Reputable chinchilla breeders?

That is sad to learn...that our province previously had some good breeders but now they are all gone. Thank you for the rescue work that you are doing. It is very admirable. I am presently not ready to take in a chin but will definitely consider a rescue besides buying one from a reputable...

    Reputable chinchilla breeders?

Did the good breeders just move away? If so, do you have their contacts? Or did they stop breeding? Thanks, I may consider rescue if the time comes for another chin.

    Reputable chinchilla breeders?

I'm still puzzled by the lack of background checks from otherwise reputable breeders. For example, I'm also a member of a dog forum and reputable breeders there definitely will do a check. Obviously it's not 100% foolproof, but at least the effort is there to try to filter out some undesirable...

    Reputable chinchilla breeders?

Just wondering what would constitute as a reputable breeder? Do you know any that are near Toronto? I'm just doing research in advance and would like to know what is acceptable in the chinchilla circles. Another forum mentioned some breeders but they would just turn around and contact the...

Best way to travel with chins

I would think that whatever allows you to keep an eye on them is preferable, so probably not flight since they'll probably be in a different area of the plane. When I had a chin, he made it through our ~16 hour flight, but it took him a few days to go back to normal as he was stressed by the...

    My loving chinchilla, Grayby

I guess that I'm writing as a catharsis of sorts. I can't believe that Grayby, my chinchilla, is gone. My wife and I bought him back in Hong Kong from a local pet store and it was love at first sight - he was so cute and funny, scratching at the store glass as if to say "take me!". Chinchillas...
