    Chinchilla prolapse penis, need help

Someone who owned one of my chins had these symptoms from a hair ring. The chin did not have any other problem and recovered after the hair ring was removed. However, as Dawn said it could be dental problems. Since you can check for hair rings yourself it certainly is worth doing.

    Chinchilla prolapse penis, need help

Have you done a hair ring check? Here is a link on how to do it: http://s31.photobucket.com/user/meegusmaster/media/hairring_0002.mp4.html Chins can die from hair rings and will stop eating if they are in pain.

    Kit losing weight

Her cage mate could be dominating the food bowl. I would put 2 food bowls and 2 water bottles in the cage and see if that helps.

    Another question

The first couple of days kits often loose a gram or two. It sounds like the kits are doing well since one has gained and the other hasn't lost weight. Mom's milk may not come in fully for a few days. I would not hand feed at this time. Hand feeding should be avoided because nursing...

640g-448g, difficulties in finding cause. Long post, sorry.

I agree with the above. It doesn't sound like your chin is doing well. He is probably in a lot of pain. Root elongation is very painful. You've done all you can for him. I wouldn't allow him to suffer any longer. I'm so sorry.

    Should i feed more?

I would free feed them. Allow them as many pellets as they want. This is what is recommended for chins. Ignoring hay will diminish as they become accustomed to having the new feed all the time.

    Still here!

    Glad they are doing well!

    Chin is really annoying

Her behavior is normal. Each chin has a different personality. Some chins prefer humans to other chins.

    Can't preform hair ring check

Plain KY lubricating jelly might help but if you are still having problems extending the penis please see the vet. He will forgive you for the trauma.

    Possible eye infection? Allergies?

He doesn't need to see an emergency vet. Schedule an appointment with a chin experienced vet. You might try washing it out with human saline eye drops to see if that helps. There may be something irritating the eye causing it to water.

    Holes in Poop

Is he eating and drinking normally? If so I would give him lots of timothy hay and watch him closely. I don't think testing for toxicity is needed at this point. The fact that he continues to poop is good. Be sure he is drinking lots of water. You might want to give him human baby gas...

    Change in Bathroom behavior

No suggestions. Chins sometimes change habits for unknown reasons. It doesn't necessarily mean there is a health problem.

    Surprise baby plz Help!

The mom should be OK if your husband weighs the kit. Be sure the cage bar spaces are no bigger than 1" x 1/2" or the kit will get out.

    Chin's ears freckled? Jagged? Dry?

Her ears are normal. Beige chins ears usually have freckles and irregular edges are common. Some folks use udder cream I think you can get it at walmart for dry ears. Her ear doesn't look too dry to me. Looks more like she has chin dust on it. It gets built up over time. It's hard to tell...

    Ear concern

I don't recall seeing anything like you've described. It could be something like a harmless human mole or a soft scab. I would keep an eye on it and if it gets bigger or looks like it is infected would take the chin to the vet. Don't think it's something to worry about.

Help with wound care suggestions please

I would use colloidal silver for his wound. It is excellent for healing and a natural antibiotic. Normally I would use blu kote. Blu kote would probably work OK but since this wound is deep I think colloidal silver would be better. My brother in law had his gall bladder removed last year...

    Drooling questions

If he hasn't had dental x-rays he should have them done to be sure there isn't root elongation. If he is drooling he should see the vet.

Spilled a little water on my chins

Examine each one for wet spots and dry as much as you can with a towel or absorbent cloth. Give a dust bath or 2. They should be dry after the dust baths.
