I brought home a 3-month-old male a few days ago, but I am not entirely sure how to classify his color. I found him through Craigslist (always interesting...), where he was described as 'silver.' Now that I have him, I'd say silver/mosaic isn't accurate. (His mother was a mosaic and his father was a tan, for reference.) I'm not sure, but I think he's a medium white tan? What do you guys think?

P.S. Please don't crucify me for the plastic hut; it's only a temporary fix until my ordered supplies come in.

He's not a silver or a white. He looks like a Light Tan to me. Very cute!

Plastic is ok as long as they don't chew it. Even then, they'd have to ingest it for it to be potentially harmful.

At just 3-months old, he's probably going to change color still. Most tans get lighter or darker as they grow. Guessing by the color of his head and tail (though it may just be the pics), he's already started getting a little darker.

I've never seen a tan that light before unless it was homo, and he doesn't look like he has the bright jelly bean homo eyes. To me he looks more like a white...I'm going to go with tan white.

I forever see beiges mislabled on CL, Hoobly and EVEN in rescue! If you have red eyes and pink ears, you have some sort of beige variation.

I'm amazed how nice he fur looks. I'm so sick of seeing greasy looking chins. He is very pretty.

In about a month, post more pictures and ask again! I've had beiges turn brown velvet @ 9 months! And with the head getting darker .................?

he is very cute and as long as he isnt chewing the plastic you are fine. he is lucky to even have a decent cage & little place to hide..........some chins have less!

I'm not seeing a white here at all. Time will tell, but light tans have light underfur that can look almost white.

In some of the shots I see white, in others I don't. When he's not RIGHT UP IN THE FLASH, I don't see white at all, just tan. Without knowing his background, if I had to make a guess, I'd say tan.

In these two pictures,

I definitely don't see white, but he's farther away from the camera.

he's much closer to the camera and the flash, so the flash could just be washing him out.

I agree. I would like to see pictures in a couple months, but right now, if I had to guess on appearance alone, I'd say light tan, but going to darken up somewhere close to the face and tail color. :)

Thanks for all the input! He does have a great deal of mostly white hair, but the white has the slightest bit of color at the tip.

Does such tipping at the end of white fur negate the possibility of him being a white tan, as opposed to a tan?

I'll vote tan white, tail gives him away as a tan, but I've not seen one with such a huge variation in tan spotting - I have a page on the spotting here you can look at. :)) Especially seeing part of his belly - will be interesting to see how he changes with time.

Nope, different tan lines color different ways. Beiges can have white to dark brown shafts, depending which type you breed into your tans will give you a range of shaft color in the tans. There's another thread around here on this in regards to chocolate colored chins.

I will be sure to post new pictures in a few weeks. I swear he is darker (and larger!) every time I look at him!

What Color am I...update!

Several months ago my boyfriend posted pictures of Gus asking you guys what color he was. We had guesses of tan-white, tan, beige, and brown-velvet. Our little dude is 7 months old and for those of you who guessed tan, you're right! It's safe to say that he's now a light tan, may still get a bit dark but he's got very even coloring over his entire head, body, belly, and tail.
