Working in a restaurant is hard on your shoes. In the 9 months Ive been working at the casino grill I have been through 3 pairs of shoes. The soles peel off or wear down and the insoles crush flat and they lose the arch inside.

Ive had one pair of Rebox($60) which wore after 3 weeks and two pairs of Walmart shoes just because of how fast they wear, Ive been refusing to spend money on shoes. Well now my shoes are that spongey type material on the bottom because the grip part of the sole has worn down or peeled off. I keep slipping not yet falling at work but I can see it coming one of these days.

So does anyone have a good brand of shoes they like that are comfortable and not TOO expensive. Please no crocs or any shoes like that. First crocs are disgusting looking and second.. we cant wear anything but sneakers or server shoes. I tried the server shoes they suggested and they are ugly and uncomfortable. So besides that what do we like? Nike? Adidas? Sketchers? Im trying to think of all the brands people at work have.

Oh yea! and I have to be able to get them in all black.

I have some Sketchers that I bought at Kohl's that I absolutely LOVE. I am on my feet for pretty much 8.5 hours every day and my feet/back never hurt anymore now that I have them. I can't remember the name of them right now but I'll look when I get home and let you know.

I love New Balance as well. Generally, the higher the number of the new balance shoe (they range from 400 to 900 roughly) the more "support" the shoe has. I currently have a pair of New Balance 846 that are technically "running" shoes, but they have great support, and they've lasted me almost a year, and I work in a nursing home, so I'm on my feet for 8+ hours a day, walking around. They've held up great. I'm totally in love with New Balance, I will not go to another brand. And yes, they have all black ones. And depending on where you get them, I don't know if you have a place called "Rogan Shoes" there or not, but they always have a special on their shoes, buy one pair get one half off, which is really nice, so I just buy 2 pairs at once, so I can have a work pair and a day pair, and then they last twice as long because then I'm not wearing them every single day all the time. They're so comfortable, I love new balance!

I love New Balance. Not sure about all black though...

I've been wearing New Balance since college. I'm rather brand-loyal once I find something that works. Mine are currently mostly black except for some grey and pink...um... decorative shoe accent parts (???) like the "N" because I like a dash of color ;) But they do come in all-black versions.

Can you wear something like Danskos? My husband is on his feet all day as a nurse, and he went through so many pairs of sneakers. He LOVES his Danskos he has now and they last forever. Totally worth every penny!

Michelle- I have a pair of volatiles. The white ones. I call them my spice girl shoes. I couldnt wear them to work because Im constantly twisting my ankle in them. At that to the mysterious holes under the carpet in the dinning room and the water in the back and I can see the casino having to run medical calls on me all night. LOL They are very comfortable though!

Tia- I had to look up what Danskos were. Im not sure what the grip on the bottom would be like. I would have to look at them in person.. They arent the nicest looking shoes.. lol But Ill check them out.

For New Balance.. I usd to have a pair and maybe I just had a low number or something because I gave them to my mom a few years ago. Maybe ill have to try a higher number and see how they work out.

I bought a pair of Nike's today. I know like 10 people at work that wear them and swear by them. I actually bought a kids pair for super cheap. (I do this with name brands since you can get the same style for cheaper just because they are made for kids.) But Im looking to get another pair to alternate between. My dad who goes to a foot doctor said his doctor suggested getting 2 or 3 pairs and switching them out. foot problems happen when you wear the same pair all the time. So I might just do that.. Get a few different pairs and see how they work out for me. Im sure the wear and tear would be a whole lot less when you dont wear them every day...

Keep the suggestions coming.. Still looking for another pair or two!

Shoes are an individual thing. You've got to know your foot (do you over pronate/under pronate/supinate) have wide or narrow, etc.

It makes a huge difference in how long your shoes last.

I go through a pair every other month because I walk so much, almost never get the same pair twice because they change builds so fast these days.

I'll use myself because I don't know how you walk;

I have wide, short feet, and I supinate with the worst of them (roll to the outside).

I start by heading down the isle and getting all the wide 7.5 shoes. Then I take them out and see how they sit on the counter. Do they lean out? Reject. If I were to get one that leans out, not only would it cause me to stumble/fall all the time due to my outside rolling, but they would break down super fast because they are not reinforced correctly for me. I look for ones that are evenly balanced (o.k.) or if I'm really lucky, I find a pair that is reinforced on the outside. Those last the longest. Then I start trying them on and walking or running in them. Try 'em on, weed 'em out and do it again. Sometimes I don't find one that fits my wide *** foot and end up coming back a few weeks later when they have a new shipment in.

Most shoes these days are geared towards people who over pronate, or roll to the inside.

The pronation I was talking about above is probably why this happens to you in this pair of shoes - and why they are 'comfortable' as they fit your natural tendency to roll x direction when standing but provide extra tilt when walking, therefore causing your ankles to collapse at inopportune times.

Enjoy your new shoes! I seem to find the best fit in Adidas and New Balance, Nikes run too narrow for me.

Not to sure if I understand Pronate/supinate as it is almost 3:30am. I had to look it up.. But I think its pronate? I have very narrow, skinny, high-arched feet and when I twist my ankle it goes in towards the other foot.

I notice on my friends' shoes whose feet turn in and out but how their shoes wear on the bottom. I have almost even wear on both sides with slightly more by the outside of my foot. The shoes I used to wear for work were Reebok Classic and a Reeboc knock offs from Walmart.. The sponge material with a thin layer of rubber for a "grip" these all tore up in the first month. I was hoping to find something with a hard sole that wouldnt wear as quickly on the outside.

I'm always on my feet while at work and have found that Sketchers are the best! They are the most comfortable for me and last forever. I have tried everything- nikes, nurse mates (uniform shoes), New Balance and crocs.

I am in nursing and on my feet 12 hours a day and i wear dansko's. I have the professional one's. I love them. My feet dont hurt. I work with some people whom loves crocs. But i would definately try the dansko's out. They are pricey but ived had mine for 5 years now and they are still going strong!!

High arches usually mean under pronation (you crush your shoes to the outside). You can tell if you look at your shoe tread.

You may want to look into the running shoe section, there's a neat tool called shoedog that helps you pick brands/types that suit your gait. Then you can be armed with a list of shoes. Yea, running shoes are expensive, but if I get the wrong shoes it throws my back out, so $70 for a pair of shoes is worth it. :)) I don't run, but I do walk over 25 miles a week, not including regular everyday movement.

I've also found flat soled sandals to be very comfortable, I've been buying pairs of colombia men's sandals and they've been taking just as much mileage as my tennis shoes.

I haven't read the latest posts so I don't know if this has been mentioned, but when you get shoes for work they need to be labeled slip and oil resistant. The grease/oil on kitchen floors eats the soles of regular shoes.

My mom swears by Mephisto (pricey darn shoes), but I'm a more Under Armor & Brooks gal. The only thing about running/trainers that I don't have much luck with is I'm on my feet too long and the insoles (very thin most of the time to begin with) seem to crush and give NO cushion. When I am at the hospital, I have a pair of Brooks "nursing" (tennis-style/look) shoes and they are absolutely AWESOME! I could stand all day long and not have one inkling of pain in the pad or heal of my feet or back. Now for casual footwear, I'm a Born girl...god I love those things.
