I just found out, but Michael Clarke Duncan's chinchilla died not long after this thread was started.

Yeesh. And people wonder why I cringe when they say their dog and their chin "play well together". Even a Chihuahua that's playing rough is strong enough to seriously mess up a chin. What a lousy accident to have happen.

It was probably just a huge accident. That's so sad.

My chihuahuas are terrified of the chins. Every one of my dogs has been bitten many times and leave the chins alone...but you're right, even a little dog could hurt a chinchilla. It's best to not let them play if at all possible, or at least supervise very, very closely. My dogs would be hiding under the bed in three seconds flat if I let them play with the chins...but then again, I've trained them from babies to pretty much be scared of chins...and the chins try to bite them all the time through the cage bars.

You should read the comments to get a better idea of what happened, that quote in the article is edited to make what happened sound a lot worse. It was an unfortunate accident, and I feel bad for both him and of course Chucky.

But MCD with a rottweiler does kind of ruin that gentle giant image of him. A little bit.
