    Travel with chin?

I agree. A month is really not that long in the scheme of things. I bet there are people on here in your area who might be willing to foster her for that amount of time. You could always have them take pictures of her growth if they were so inclined. Just a thought. Edit: beaten!

    Watery eye

Okay- thanks for straightening me out! I was just suggesting that it might be something he might want to get checked just to be on the safe side. I certainly hope it is not mal though, and rather a stubborn eye infection!

Taking a chinchilla to a kindergarden class

Aw, ducklings are so cute. Good, small treats for this purpose might be rolled oats! 10, individual rolled oats would not be toooo bad for your little guy (or girl) in one sitting, and chins usually love them. It'd be like a serving of supplement or something...

Taking a chinchilla to a kindergarden class

I think that, with the right chin, and the right adult supervision, this could be okay. I'm not usually a fan of chinchilla "show and tell" per se, but if you really controlled the situation, it might be nice for the children. On the other hand, kidergarten-age kids can be really...

    Watery eye

You might want to get her teeth checked & x-rayed by the vet. Unfortunately, malocclusion is often the culprit responsible for watery eyes. Has she been eating normally and producing good poops? I think taking her to a different vet is a good idea.

    Pear tree Branches?

Yes- please, please post pics of the cage when you're finished! I love seeing cabinet/melamine - style cages with tree branches inside! It always looks so fun for the chinchilla! :)

    How to fix my mistakes?

Oh, I forgot to mention, Kleenmama's Hayloft is a great place to buy Timothy hay. Her hay is amazing, and you can buy a lot at one time and store it. (It stores rather well in the cardboard box it comes in, as long as you keep it inside somewhere.) Like food, hay is much more economical to...

    How to fix my mistakes?

It's good you're taking some time to learn proper chin husbandry! 1) I'd cut the dried apples immediately. Instead, you can give a dried rosehip, old-fashioned rolled oats, plain cheerio, or plain shredded wheat as a treat- sparingly (like once a week). 2) That cage might be ok if you...

RED ears, not heatstroke, just got back from the vet-- still need HELP

I just want to chime in and say that my tan has gotten the red, floppy ear thing before too. I was really worried until I figured out what was causing it, but it's completely harmless. They just look like doofuses for a while. :)

    question about cage cleaning

When it's just a quick clean, and not time for 50/50 white vinegar & water, I use unscented baby wipes to wipe down pans. I also wouldn't use clorox wipes...

    Cooing?

It might be the 'contact' sound. It's a soft chirp-like sound they make when content and being social with another chin (or you). I think this is stickied somewhere, but this site is great for looking up chinchilla sounds: http://www.chinchilla-sounds.de/index_en.htm.

    Burrowing?

Are you using the regular FN plastic trays- the ones it comes with? If so, you can prevent burrowing by making a 'pillowcase' style fleece liner that is open on one end only. Then you just slip it over the tray and shove the whole thing in. They can't burrow this way, but you might have to...

    What cage do you prefer?

I will also agree that the FN 142 rocks! I have that in addition to a Martin cage, and the Ferret Nation is so much easier to clean because the doors open all the way. Also, the FN seems sturdier, and flying saucer is much quieter in it than in the Martin.
