I noticed this morning one of Oscar's ears was bright red and drooping (the other was fine, it was pale pink and perked up)

I just got back from the veternarians office (Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in Cranston, RI) and the vet looked him over and said everything was fine and that he was in excellent condition. She told me to monitor him and to call her tomorrow if anything was wrong.

Does anyone have any idea why his ears are red? (Now both of them are red)
its definitely not heatstroke, I always keep the heat in my room off.

When some chins sleep they put pressure on the ear and they can get floppy and turn red. Usually after they've been up and moving for a bit it goes back to normal. Beige's and White's especially tend to get red years. I'd just keep an eye out for changes, but if that's the only thing happening then he should be ok. What's the temperature in your place?

If a chin holds it's ear to it's head the ear gets warm & goes red. Sometimes a sleepy chin will have one ear folded down & sometimes they will fold both down - if the ambient temperature of the room is not warm then it is probably just a warm ear.

Do you know the temperature of the room just now?

If everything else seems normal, Oscar is peeing pooping, eating & drinking fine then I suspect he just had a sleepy ear - the reason both are red now is probably the stress of being at the vets.

keep a close eye on him over the next couple of hours & I suspect he will be acting perfectly normally & wondering why you took him to that nasty vet person. ;)

Thank you guys soo much for your fast responses!
I feel alot better knowing its probably a sleepy ear, I am still nervous though so I will definitely keep a eye on him.

The temperature is usually 65-66, I will bring the temp down and see if it helps..

Nope, that temp is fine really - I am sure Oscar will be muttering under his breath about being woken from a nice dream to be hoiked out of his cage - he'll forgive you in time, I am sure...... possibly.

60-65 should be ok. I try to keep my chin betwen 60-70. Some people say a little cooler or a little warmer is ok too; I just feel that 60-70 is a temperature range that we can both live in comfortably.

EDIT: yep, what Claire said. We were posting at the same time lol.

I just want to chime in and say that my tan has gotten the red, floppy ear thing before too. I was really worried until I figured out what was causing it, but it's completely harmless. They just look like doofuses for a while. :)

My beige has pink ears, especially when he is laying in his hammock! Your temp is fine, sounds like just a case of nervous mommy!

Thanks everyone for your help! Oscar is doing fine *knock on wood*
his ears are completely back to normal, his poops look great and he is eating normally.

Ohyeah and he did seem kind of mad after we got home. I offered him a raisin (which he never gets) and he didn't scarf it down immediately. (He took it after i rubbed it on his nose though haha)
