    How soon?

On Chincare.com, the cage-within-a-cage method instructed that taking out the toys and shelves would keep both chins from having an advantage over the other.... thinking about it now it actually seems so silly! I put the shelves and other toys back in last night, they both have full access to...

    How soon?

After a very long quarentine period, I have introduced my two female chins together and they're getting along great! I'm wondering, though, how soon can I put the shelves back in the cage? Its a big ferret nation cage and they are confined to the top level, but both of them are climbing the...

    chin buddies

I have five dogs (golden retriever, husky/lab mix, 3 mini dachshunds) and Ive never had a problem with them coexisting. Bella doesn't seem to mind them at all, and they're hardly ever in the same room as she is. When we first got Bella, they where curious but I didn't let them go near the cage...

    New Chin Owner Mistakes

I had the death ball... and kaytee products... and raisins... NO MORE! Only safe wood, hay, Oxbow pellets, and the occasional wheatie treat! Also, the Snak Shacks... avoid. At all costs.

    Bleeding?? HELP!

The first time was because she miscarried (we had NO IDEA she was pregnant!) Our vet said she was too young to make it to a full term. The second time, the culprit was an infection. It was an odd coincidence for the two incidents to fall approximately a year apart, which is why at first I...

    Random Barking?

My chin used to bark when her pellet dish got empty or when she wanted to play. Once I looked her way, she bounced around the cage, basically telling me 'I want out to play!'. Of course, this was cute before she started doing it at 3 AM. Her cage is in the living room now :) I kinda miss the...

    Pellets! Off or Name Brands?

I was giving my chin Kaytee brand food (never again! Not after what I've read on this forum...), but Petsmart stopped selling it. So, I had to switch pellets. I compared all the brands available and picked Great Choice Chinchilla Food. The nutritional values between Oxbow (which was several...

    Chinchilla Exercise Wheel

I had the same problem with Bella last year. After a dreaded month of searching, I found a metal/mesh one on sale at our local petco. It was under $20 and she loves it! No spokes, and the mesh is tight enough to where her toes and paws cant get caught between them :)

    Bleeding?? HELP!

She's been an 'only chin' since I brought her home, and so far no more freak bleedings. Its possible that the male that got her pregnant was her cage mate at the store. Pet stores dont really pay that much attention to genders I guess. Its been MONTHS since, and it hasnt happened again. The vet...

Cage-in-Cage intro? What type of cage?

The bleeding happened back in March and since then our vet has checked her and no more strange bleedings have happened. She was on antibiotics for a bit, but that was MONTHS ago. I appreciate your concern, though.

    Bleeding?? HELP!

It was months ago, around march. Its happened twice, and its so odd... the vet checked her and said that if it didnt stop, bring her back but it only lasted about 6 hours. Im thinking since she was pregnant and miscarried, she must have been put with a male at the petstore we bought her from. So...

Make way, total newbie coming through...

I've had my chinnie for almost 2 years now, and I am just now starting to realize how much I DONT know. So, just a few questions I would really like answers to... 1) Is scented dust bath dangerous in any way? 2) I'm adopting a kit (as soon as she reaches 8 weeks) and I'm not really sure how to...

    Water bottles, treats and shelves?

Ive had Bella for two years now, and Im just beginning to realize how much I DONT know. Since Im adopting chinchilla kit in several weeks (already picked her out, waiting for her to be weaned) I figure I need to know: 1) Are plastic water bottles bad? Some people keep saying that glass would be...

    New Chin Owner Mistakes

I am so glad this is here. No more raisins for us! Guess I should ditch the Kaytee hay now.

What to use as a dust bath container?

I used a mixing bowl at first. Anything with a dipped bottom will do.

Cage-in-Cage intro? What type of cage?

I'm going to be introducing a 10 week old chin to a 2 year old chin and I want to try the cage-in-cage method. What type of small cage can I use that can be purchased at local place like a Petco or Petsmart?

    Bleeding?? HELP!

So, when I first got my female chin from a pet store (I was told she was 5 months old) she was pregnant and miscarried. The vet told us that she was too young to breed and sent us home. She was totally fine. Approximately one year later, she started bleeding from her vaginal area AGAIN. It was...
