I agree with Caiti, give him longer or more playtime. That way he'll tire himself out and will be less apt to bite and chew on the cage bars. When I put mine up, they usually just lay down and take a nap. Maybe get him a wheel or something to help him use up that extra energy.
I'd be a little leery of ever putting them back together again after that big a fight. You could risk ending up with a dead chin. I know that is blunt, but I've had it happen to me so I just make it a rule around my house. If there is ever a 'major' fight, they get separated forever.
It just depends on the chin. I have a bunch of different kinds of cages and only one has a wheel and I rotate chins to different cages when I clean. Some get on it instantly and others could care less.
