My babies Rock!
So I kinda goofed and instead of bidding on a bag of processed and webby loofah slices and bookmarking the skins-on version to research later, I ended up buying the ones that still have the skin and seeds on. :cry4:
Think these are okay to give as chews? They are known to be parrot safe, but I haven't heard anything about their use for other animals. All I know about the plant itself is that it grows in Zones 5 or 4 and lower, and the part we let chins chew is actually just the structural tissue of the fruit of the plant, which is a big ol' vine like most other gourds.
In other news, some of the seeds in these dried gourd slices are mature. Anybody south of about the Mason-Dixon line that wants to try to grow their own is welcome to them. It's too cold in the Ohio Valley for the vines to survive the winter, and the plants get too big to be overwintered indoors. I can drop them in the mail whenever, no charge since I'm not going to do anything with them.
