Hello all. Haven't been on much lately. Recently found out that I'm expecting. Kinda a huge shock as I am 44. My baby is due in Mid February. It's been a super easy pregnancy so far although i am nervous due to my age. I'm hoping to get some advice from everyone how to maintain the care of my pets as I get bigger and when baby is born. My son will be 12 in December so last time around I did not have any chinchillas. Would also love some encouragement from some other moms of "advanced maternal age" lol

Wow! So that's what you were cooking when you were gone ;)) ... Last time I was pregnant I was 34 and I didn't have any pets either at that time so all I could advise you with is to just take it slow and not try to do too much at once, wear gloves and a mask when cleaning.

Congratulations! :babyboy::babygirl:

Being hugely pregnant with 150 chinchillas I have to say it us doable. I clean a small section every day

wow Michele must have been a huge surprise!! - congrats!! Do you know the gender? I would say,as Starleomach said do a cage at a time. Get your son to help

Ok kristy that puts it in perspective! Im mostly worried about my guys on the bottom. And like today, I had to take one to the emergency vet and now I'm handfeeding plus meds. I guess I will always have something laying on my chest be it flesh or fur!
And Barb, I have my son in training but still nervous about him holding all of them but at least he can get those lower cages!
I will find out the gender in a couple weeks. I have 1 son & 2 stepsons, so a girl would be a nice change! I also had a new genetic test done, called the materni21 plus done to test for downs syndrome & that came back negative. :)

Michelle, what a great surprise! :congrats2:
I hope your pregnancy goes smoothly.

Congratulations!!!

Surprise babies (some people call them Bonus Babies) are usually the light of your life!!! My best friend had one 10 years after she thought that with a girl and a boy, she was done. It has been a joy watching her grow into a beautiful, self assured young lady, probably because she spent most of her time in the company of adults.

I always tell her that if I had a daughter, I would want her to be just like her!!! She was always well behaved, never threw fits in restaurants. She is literally the best child I have ever known!!!

Kara (Mistywaterwoman on here) had a surprise or "bonus" baby, little Eric, and his brother is a teenager and a great help to his mom. Plus, the boys adore each other!!!

Good luck on a smooth and uncomplicated pregnancy!!!

thanks everyone. definitely an easy pregancy so far, only symtom is exhaustion. but i guess with 3 tween boys to take care of, 9 chinnies, 1 guinea pig and and my 13 year old baby girl collie shepard, i would be tired anyway!!

and barb.....no the problem chin was NOT richie. he is doing amazingly well. It was stitch. he started acting strange, noticed he didnt eat his food or treats and was sitting in his littler box at the bottom of his cage not in his tube. when i picked him up he was lethargic and wimpering. i noticed his tummy was a bit yellow & damp so i was thinking UTI. gave him a dose of TMS and he layed on my chest until about 4 am. i contacted dr goode who is not longer practicing at banfield and ended up going to northstar and saw dr doolen, who is one of THE most competent specialists i have ever seen. I will never go to another vet for my chins. he worked with me on price and listened to all my thoughts and was actually impressed i knew so much! he did cultures of stitch's mouth and urinary tract or whatever and I should have results in a another day or so. also did a full body xray and saw no stones or very serious mouth issues but saw some gas & bloating. he anethestized him after doing a quick oral exam and filed a few small points but nothing too bad. gave him the basics: metacam, baytril, cisapride. he seems better but honestly, all my chins seem off these last few days and i am trying to figure out what and if i did anyting different at all!

Do you know where Janice went?? - Really doesn't surprise me she left Banfield - she really didn't like how they conducted business. Where is this vet at 'Northstar' Is that a town??

Congrats Michelle!!! Looks like several of us will be having feb babies--- we should start a support thread :p

Congratulations! :) What a wonderful surprise! I wish you the most happy and healthy pregnancy!
