hey hey , suddenly have a problem
yes, there are poops, but 2 of it change to a big size,1 is a longer one, another is a fatter one... i afraid there will be more poops like this

Do you mean they are big, or are they also soft?
If they are big poops, that's a good sign.

a bit soft then those 40-50 poops in early morning, but not mean the poops are soft like when they are having Diarrhea

the long poops is about 1.3cm~1.4cm long
i think i should say, the poops are big, with a bit wet on surface

If they are just a few poops, I wouldn't worry about them. It's ok to have a few soft poops when most are normal. Good job on keeping an eye on your chinchilla. All the best.

really thanks for your reply, will keep watching her today, and we are going to take her to vet tomorrow, hope she is fine...
yesterday and today, we found her wake up in noon time, walk around in her cage then back to sleep, attracting our focus on her.
this is what she always do when she is nomral., she always wake up at noon time and walk around her cage and go back to sleep

It sounds like she has made it through the really rough patch with all of your hard work!! I will continue to hope for the best for her!

came back from another vet

the vet said that the air has reduced, but still have some in Cecum
we also checked her blood, the report are ok, just some of the item may regard to kidney, but not a big problem

the med change as follow:
metacam 0.04ml - 2 times a day
prepulsid 0.3ml - 2 times a day
metoclopramide 0.3ml - 3 times a day

the vet said she won't advice to take simethicone , but she said this would not be harmful to chin. the critial care contain probiotic thus extra Protexin may not need to take
when she touched my chin's mouth(i mean she checked outside her mouth) find that her lower teeth root has some problem, but she cannot check inside mouth, coz my chin's tongue move a lot.
Another problem is, her leg, since she is old, the problem is that my chin may take much Calcium, her leg is a bit Calcification.
Thus metacam has increased to 0.04ml - 2 times a day due to teeth and leg's problem.

Teeth problems could have contributed to a reason why your chinchilla is not eating.
I had to go to a dental vet specialist because my vet is not equipped with the proper x-ray machines for mouths.

vet said is not the time to check her teeth with the equipments, at least we know she is started eat hay by herself , the teeth problem may not serious

It is great news that her gut is getting straightened out thanks to all of your very hard work with her. However, if a vet told me that she felt roots by feeling the outside of my chin's mouth, I would be worried. Roots growing into bone is very painful and unfortunately something that chinchillas do struggle with more than they should. As soon as your chinnie is well enough I would have x-rays taken of her teeth. If she has roots growing into her jaw then there is nothing that can be done for her unfortunately. I will keep her in my thoughts and hope that the vet was not correct in her feelings about the roots.

i took my chin to visit 2 different vet, they both said that my chin have teeth problem.
1 said her lower teeth is a bit long
1 said her teeth root have problem
actually we donnot know what problem as we didnt have any x ray for her teeth..
as vet in Hong Kong do not have much experience of chin, the vet we visit today should be the most experienced, we can trust her, but maybe 100%
she told me that we cannot give my chin fruits, (crannberry even those dried ones, help the moving of gut)pellets also not advice to give but if she willing to eat, little of pellets will be fine.

after back from vet, she is very very tired, even now half day later. i know she must feel unhappy because vet checked her for long time

I'm sorry, ricerice. If her teeth roots are growing into her jawline, this very well may be what started the whole not eating issue in the first place.

You will definitely need xrays of your chin's teeth. That will help you know for sure what is going on with them, and will help determine your course of treatment.

i understand this may need to check her teeth, just as the vet said, not the time to check her teeth, because she is starting to eat some hay by herself, if we check In-depth with her teeth, and make her feel uncomfortable, not eating with the hay again, it may make her wrost again, that's why, we donnot check it with the xray...

i really thanks all of your kindless reply, hope that my chin is getting better

How is she doing today, ricerice? Is she still starting to eat more on her own?

Awww I'm sure your chinchilla must be very tired from seeing all those vets.
I know that for any teeth procedures, even for a simple xray, the chinchilla must be put under anesthesia. If it's the root, some surgery might need to be done. Whereas if the teeth are just long, they can be burred/trimmed down for a temporary fix. But either way, putting rodents under anesthesia is always a risk.
All the best & keep us updated.

hello all,
my chins is good yesterday. sleeping a lot, pooping a lot, push her to walk for a while after every session of hands feeding, warm compress and massage.
i feeded her yesterday with about 60ml, only about 10ml was taken in the night time, i should make mistake, too less for her in night time, since it is quite cold these days, this morning, i checked , she loss weight... i can see her, there are still many poops, she still eats, she still walk, and seems good like yesterday, i will try to feed her more at night...
i woke up every mid-night and checked her, feed her some hays, she only ate a little bit, i think, that's why she lose weight.
the day before yesterday, she ate about 15~20ml at night... (hand feeding 6 times a day)
start from yesterday, hand feeding is 5 times a day.
the last meal was at 9:00pm. and the first meal this morning was 8am. nearly 12 hours later,(yesterday 606g, today 575g) after the first meal 10ml hand feeding, the weight up to 585g
i will remember to feed her more at night.

You're doing a real good job. Just keep at it & I'm sure that your chinchilla will pull through on her own. Just be patient.

i hope that if the weather become warmer, she will be more active and more poops will come out !!haha.. everyday i group all of her poops...ha

That's because poops are great lol....they are one of our first indications that things are going right or wrong with a chin. :) I'm very glad to hear she is pooping more.

I am concerned though that she's not eating on her own because of her teeth. If that's the case, her appetite is not going to get better, because it hurts to chew. When you get xrays, please be sure to post them here. There are many members who are very skilled in reading xrays, and identifying teeth issues.
