For those using the Agselect/Edstrom watering system

Hi! I just wanted to share this for those using the Agselect/Edstrom watering system. I know we all replace the tubing with fresh, clean tubing every few months. I'm not sure if everyone is using the tubing straight from the manufacturer, or if you all have found alternatives already, but I...

bonded chins started fighting. please help

I would separate them and start the bonding process over. I've had this happen before too. Cagemates seem perfectly fine and well-bonded, then one day they turn on each other.

    Which Thermometer?

I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Ambient-Weather-WS-03-Temperature-Humidity/dp/B007FTZNHO/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1412799316&sr=8-8&keywords=thermometer+humidity It's simple but works really well.

What are your chin's crazy nicknames

My first pet chin was originally named "Ash." However for some reason I ended up nicknaming him "Bean" which often translated to "Beanie." After he passed, I got a memorial for him that said "Bean" instead of "Ash" because I never ended up calling him "Ash" other than for about the first month...

    Quads again

Oh! Good to know. It must just all be coincidental. I thought my male was just making big litters somehow! He's such a fast breeder, too. Thanks!

    Color/type

I have also seen beiges in pet stores, but not too often (maybe once or twice, and I always have a habit of looking at the chins whenever I go...). Mostly I see standards. But either a pet store or breeder could be possible. Also, to the TOV question, my avatar pic is of a brown velvet (beige...

Concerned about an 8 week old kit

How is your kit doing? As mentioned, the easiest way to know for sure is to weigh her. Keep an eye on her food dish and water bottle. If she's eating and drinking, I'm sure she'll be okay :) I hope she's doing well for you!

Need a reccomendation for chin accessories

As others mentions, Fleece for Furries is great, I have bought from her a few times. Also Fuzzies Kingdom does fleece stuff, along with Chinchilla City (who posted above  )

    Quads again

Good luck! I know quads are exhausting, even triplets can be. I've had three litters of triplets and a litter of quads since May. The first two triplets were from the same dad. And the dad that fathered the quads was with another female who is due as early as October 9, and she's looking quite...

I have a thing for beige, brown velvet, and tan. Of course, I love all the colors! But the browns just really appeal to me for some reason.

    Hidey houses and activity centers

Hi! Here is a post on here about DIY chin stuff. They don't have a hidey house listed but lots of other ideas! http://www.chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15265 I hope that helps.

    Hammock question

There are a lot of things that aren't safe for chins, so the best bet is to go with someone who is making hammocks specifically for chins. Then you know they are chin safe. TJ's has some nice stuff http://www.tjschinchillasupplies.com/chinchillafleecehammocks.html

    Retiring and selling my herd

I'm sorry to hear that you're getting out of breeding :( I would be interested in a few as I'm looking to improve ...specifically my violets, possibly some others, however would not be able to make the drive... if anyone from the eastern PA and surrounding area will be heading out that way...

    pee?

I don't think it sounds concerning, personally. I've had chinchillas that are very neat and tidy, and will only pee in one spot. I've had some that even avoid peeing on ledges. And then others, will just go anywhere at any time, and don't really care. It just depends on the chin.

    Water bottle?

When I was using bottles, the super pet ones from petco/petsmart have always started leaking on me. I've found that the Kaytee glass bottles and the Lixit bottles (http://www.amazon.com/Lixit-Glass-Water-Bottle-32-Ounce/dp/B0002Z15ZW) tend to be better, I haven't had any issues with them.

Where do you shop for bulk stuff?

I was wondering where everyone buys stuff in large quantities. I have a great place near me called Tractor Supply where I can get 50lb bags of Manna Pro for a good price. But I'm not sure where to get hay and bedding anymore. I was getting bedding from a place called Chaar, they used to sell...
