Switching to a Purina Rabbit Chow instead of Oxbow??

Rabbit Chow Show. It's okay to use that. :)

What should I use to clean Chinchilla ears?

Don't put objects in a chin's ears. You can clean grimy stuff on the outside of the ear with an edible oil like corn oil or jojoba oil. I'd stay away from mineral oil. Don't stick a q-tip in the ear unless there is a real reason to do it.

    Galvalume Pans

I just ordered some pans but I can always order more. I go through a lot of pans, the rust and I replace them. 10 years without having to replace a pan sounds good to me! I sometimes get 5 years out of the galvanized steel pans I normally get. I need a rather large pan at 43.5"x17.5"x2.5"...

    Scam

I know, these types of people are all over. They always make me feel uneasy or they let something slip that tells me what they are trying to pull. Fortunately for me it takes a little effort for people to come all the way out here to see the chins so most of the shady people just leave me...

    Sterilizing wooden toys....

I'd just throw everything out, too. Baking everything would probably kill everything completely....setting things out in the sun in the UV light helps to kill bacteria....BUT you just never know. I throw out wooden items that come with rescues just to be safe. Wood can harbor bacteria and...

    Are these acceptable?

I'd stay away from the fresh veggies. There are some dried herbs that could be alright....dried parsley in a small amount would be alright, I'm not sure about the bay leaves. I give dried peppermint, dandelion, oregano and oat tops...those work out pretty well with the chinnies here. The...

    Lavender?

I can't see why it would be poisonous. As long as it isn't treated with something and is food grade and maybe organic, that would probably be alright in a small amount as a treat.

Rescue chin happy story and she needs a name!

I agree! She's learning how to be a good pet chinnie again. More good food and more dust baths should do the trick. :)

    Male/female play time

Keep them separated all the time.....it only takes about 3/10ths of a second for babies to be conceived.

Rescue chin happy story and she needs a name!

Hope is super feisty. It may be because she is finally able to eat her fill of whatever she wants now. She loves hay so much and it has made a huge difference in her droppings. I couldn't get her to really hold still for photos but I got a couple in focus. She just jumped down and ran...

Rescue chin happy story and she needs a name!

I'm pretty sure he gave her some gas to allow her to sleep during the procedure. I don't think she would have held still for him to trim her teeth. She's feisty! She's a little angry still, but she's eating and trashing her cage so I think she's doing really well. I hope that in the next...

Rescue chin happy story and she needs a name!

Hope it is! :) I had to fill up her dish again a few minutes ago. She has decided she is going to eat! I'm just glad that I got her when I did. Another month or so and this wouldn't have been so easy.

Rescue chin happy story and she needs a name!

On Sunday I picked up a rescue chin, who came from the Humane Society in Phoenix. Friends of mine picked her up for me since my trip to Phoenix on Sunday had 20 stops in it! The owners of this chin surrendered her because she had tooth problems. I'm guessing that meant that they believed...

    Where can I find this?

1/2"x1/2" wire mesh from Home Depot or Lowes would work well. You could cut it with some tin snips and attach it with twist ties. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-1-2-in-x-2-ft-x-5-ft-Hardware-Cloth-308221HD/204331879 You could use Plexiglass, but the hardware cloth is cheaper and...

    Cooling off?

Don't shut the door and supervise closely. Chinchillas really enjoy cold objects sometimes like that, it won't hurt them....but don't ever shut a chin in the freezer. One thing that I have seen customers do because their chins love the cold is they fill up glass jars with ice cubes and allow...

    3 weeks after spay

It looks pretty good for being 3 weeks out from surgery. There's a lot of healing going on, and she has a little scar tissue....that's totally normal. I don't see any signs of infection. Small lumps and bumps along the incision are common...normally they go down when the chin is fully healed...

    Chinchillas and Cats

We adopted a 5 year old cat. They gave him to us because they were going to euthanize him the next day. He is the best cat in the world....so much better than any kitten. He never does anything wrong, he doesn't spray, he's calm, and if he's inside he wants nothing to do with the chins or...

    Chinchillas and Cats

There's no reason why you can't have a cat and chins, you just have to make sure no one gets hurt. Many of my customers have cats but they don't let them play and they are careful with kitties being able to get to the chins. It's mostly those claws you have to worry about....as others have...
