What type of hay does your chinchilla like most?

Oxbow Timothy most of the time with some other varities mixed in. Once in a while I'll run out and buy some cheap big box store hay and they throw it back out of the cage. More ends up on the floor of their room then in the cage....rotten chins!

    Chin loosing weight after injury

Well things are looking a little better. Oli ate some ground up pellets and water, and his weight is up to 405 g. Should we mix some baby cereal in with it? If I remember right it helps them put on weight better. Also would he eat it better with something that tastes better to him??? Thanks

    Chin loosing weight after injury

I have not seen him eat pellets but I have seen him eat hay, oats and gnaw on sticks. I gave him the Metacam yesterday. I also called the vet yesterday because the metacam seems to space him out really bad and they said to keep giving it to him for inflimation but try to do a half of the dose...

    Chin loosing weight after injury

About a week ago my chin had an injured back paw that we took him to the vet for. We were given Metacam for pain. Since his injury he has went from 436 grams to 400 grams. Should we start handfeeding him? I dont have any critical care on hand and would have to order it. Should we grind pelllets...

    Stepped on chin

He has been in a seperate cage now, and i cleaned the cage. He has been in there for about 2 hrs. I dont see any poops in his bedding, but he doesn't have a hard belly. Is this normal? Should we rub his belly with a warm washcloth to help him poop soon?

    Stepped on chin

My chins and i were out for playtime about 30 min. ago and I accidentially stepped on him. He is now limping and won't put any weight on his back leg. I am very worried. We don't have access to an emergency vet. I put him and his brother in a smaller cage without ledges. I put his brother in...

    Good Weights?

I have 2 chinchillas that I handfed. I think one is really small. They were born June of 2011. Oli is the smallest at 445g, and Pepper is the larger one at 643g. Is this small for either? They both eat a lot of pellets and hay, and drink quite a bit of water. They are also more active than my...

Hi! I have some problems with my chinchilla

I'm not sure if this is the case, but when she it trying to "bite" you she may just be trying to groom you. All 4 of my chinnies will nibble on my fingers, knuckles, fingernails, ext. It DOES NOT hurt... i kind of tickles. It is their way of grooming/ bonding to you. Just set your hand in her...

    People UGH!

Totaly off subject but I am aware that hampsters only live about 1 year if that. I find this very odd because my daughter had one hampster that lived 6 years and one that lived 3. After that we got our chinnies. :)

    Do you charge adoption fees?

I have never personally had to deal with this, or adopted so this is just a suggestion. When I was looking at possibly adopting a chin from a shelter, they had a rehoming fee. When I purchased a chinnie fro ma backyard breeder, as a pet I paid for the chin because the was selling the chin. I am...
