Bass pans are nice, but aren't really necessary if you have fleece liners. Its only really a necessity if your going to use shavings.

Haha my sweeper would beg to differ. I love my Bass Pans and I use fleece. I had one cage where I used the plastic until the BP's came in and it was a mess with poops, more so then normal:laughitup:

Well I am officially a FN cage club member. I went to Petsmart and bought my cage. I was told that they didn't have anymore and was really upset but I just wanting to see if there were things that perhaps Phoenix would like and when I went to the counter to pay I asked for a raincheck and the lady had to have the number or something but they ended up having only one left and I was soo excited and mad that I was told that they didn't have anymore.

I bought it and I put it together at my brother's dad's house and he is going to bring it to my apartment tomorrow night. We made some ledges, a bridge, and some hanging toys. I can't wait for Phoenix to get into her new cage tomorrow night. I will definitely have pictures posted.

:) :)

yea well it must be a petsmart thing....LAZY!!!!!!!! everytime i call i talk to some idiot that says they dont even CARRY the cage but yet i went in there and there was a sticker so a week later i called back and he argues with me that there wasnt a sticker...ok i didnt know i couldnt read......... so i hung up on him called back and asked to speak to a manager and she told me that carried them but they werent in stock and she figured it would be a while before they were because of them being on back order.... UGGGGGGGGGGH

Phoenix's cage

Here is Phoenix's cage I just got it here tonight. It's definitely a work in progress. I have more ledges and hanging toys coming, they just need the holes drilled in them and I want to dye them but what do I use to dye the wood?
:hmm::)

Thanks! I tried to take those screws out but I couldn't get them. When Dustin gets home from work I will have him try.

I can't wait to start making fleece things. I haven't used a sewing machine since 8th grade lol it will definitely be a challenge but I am up to it.
I wonder how everything is going to turn out. :hmm:

I ordered my FN today! I'm excited!

So what is this buisness about the Bass pans? Are they something I can make, or find cheaper elsewhere?

I was told that if you are going to use/make fleece bed liners, the bass pans aren't really necessary. The bass pans are more helpful if you have a fleece chewer and you have to use regular bedding.

Since I made Phoenix some liners I don't think I'm going to buy the bass pans, just going to order Phoenix her chin spin.

I hope this helps.

:)

I'd like to stick to bedding...I'm not totally sold on the fleece liners yet....

I order my FN pans from a place in Canada called Grandview Rabbitry. The only problem with doing it that way is that even though the pans are cheaper than Bass, the shipping sucks. I usually just order them when I'm planning to cross the border anyway and have them shipped to a friend's in Ontario. I have shipped them to me though and they got here quickly.

I only do it this way because I didn't know about Bass until after I had gotten them and am afraid to change what works! :)

I was going to do the same, I was used to the bedding and since I have 3 very tough chewers, I thought the fleece would be a bad idea. Turns out the fleece worked PERFECT and my chins leave it alone. SO much cheaper and easier than the shavings. If you want to give it a try, places like JoAnn are always having 50% off sales... you could buy a yard for about $4 and put it on the floor of your chins cage, see what they do. :D With my girl, I just wrap 1/2 a yard of fleece around her plastic tray and she doesn't mess with it. When I had the liners in there, she hated it and was always moving it around to get onto the single layer (maybe the liners are too fluffy for her). The boys have a 1/2 yard around their plastic tray and a liner (only because I sewed the liners too small on accident). Good luck!

Buying shavings right now isn't a major expense. My laundry is coin operated, and paying $4 more a week to wash fleece is more expensive for me. So far the shavings have worked pretty well, and I don't like fixing things that ain't broke....

Since you're going to be using bedding, you'll want the bass pans. You can buy them from www.bassequipment.com . The plastic pans that come with the cage have hardly any lips on them and will not keep any bedding in once your chin gets running around or digging.

If you're good at metal working, I guess you could make some..but IMO that would be a lot of work and effort and I prefer to just buy things...

The main reason I use fleece liners is because I was going through soooo much bedding with 3 cages to clean every week. I also had a lot of trash. Throwing away trash bags full of bedding was a pain, and the liners have cut my cage cleaning time in half. Where as it took me almost 2 hours to scoop out all of the bedding in my cages, now it takes me about an hour to change liners, scrub everything down, etc. Only about 10 minutes if I'm just changing liners out.

That makes total sense :D I was using the apartment laundry center when I first moved in to where I'm at because our washer/dryer were on back order. I just threw the fleece in with my regular clothes (I know, that's a little gross :p). I made enough liners where I only have to wash them every 2-3 weeks.

^^^ That is EXACTLY why I switched too. Even with 1 large cage, I was having to take out a trash bag every week. The cleaning time is cut in half as well. I had an all wood cage and the pee with the bedding was eating through the trays. I was going to have to make new ones soon and that was going to cost a lot. I was moving anyway and needed a lighter cage, that's where FN and fleece liners came into play. I will never go back to bedding. Love love love the fleece!

Finally!

I'm an official member of the club now. Chelsea's cage is almost complete... just waiting on a "daybed" from Simply Chintastic, and would like to order one of those suspension bridges someday. The setup looks kinda sparse in pictures, but in reality I'm not sure how much more I could fit in without making it difficult for her to jump around. Also, I love my new wood shelves but will miss the ability to hang toys from the shelves like I could on the shelves the FN came with. Does anyone have a solution for this?

So in the three months that I've had Chelsea, she's upgraded cages twice now and is finally completely pimped out!

it doesn't seem like she couldn't run around. You could try to hand on the hammock itself, or the long shelve on the wall or by the snuggle tube. You should see what i want to do in my head, there are 4 shelves on one door and 3 on another, maybe i'll change my mind when i actually see it.

Easy solution - get some eye screws and screw UP into the wood shelves where you want to hang a toy or hammock or whatever, then attach the whatever to those eye screws using clips, snap hooks, or tiny carabiners.

Something similar to this - EYE SCREW

Just make sure that the length of the screw part is shorter than the depth of your shelf so it doesn't screw all the way thru the shelf and come out on the top side. :)
