SWEET PDZ

What is it? Sweet PDZ is an all-natural, non-hazardous and non-toxic mineral (clinoptilolite) that is one of the very best odor neutralizers around. It captures, neutralizes and eliminates harmful levels of ammonia and odors. We love to sprinkle this in our chinchillas litter boxes to help keep them fresh between changes. It can works as an alternative to Blue Cloud dust for some owners with allergies.

I son is allergic to the chins dust and I found this on another members site. Has anyone tried it? How did it work for you?

Some people I have talked to said it made their chin's fur feel dry and clumpy. Others swear by it. I personally wouldn't use it for my chins, but others seem to like it a lot.

I have heard Blue Sparkle works well for those with allergies as the seem to react less towards it than Blue Cloud.

Contact Tara (Spoof) to make sure you get the right kind. The one kind made their fur feel clumped, the other did not. She can tell you the correct one to try.

I found that if I mixed the sweet pdz with the blue cloud, that it did not make Herby's fur feel dry and clumpy. I had bought a pound of each from one of the chin owners off of here, and did not want to waste it, so I did a little experiment by mixing a small amount of each together and seeing if that helped, and it did. So, I mixed them both together and have been doing that way.

I have one thing to say about Sweet PDZ....yuck!
Actually, I have more than one thing to say. First, the color tends to dull the fur. It's a brownish/beige dirt looking powder. Second, I found it made my chins fur feel very dirty too. I didn't want to hold them and it made my own skin dry out like crazy!
I did work as a bath replacement, but I still didn't like the compromise.
I ended up using the stuff instead as a cage deodorizer for the ferrets, where it works wonderfully. ;)

Whimsy, I wonder if you got the wrong kind? The kind I got isn't brownish/beige, it's more greyish/whitish, like the regular dusts.

I no longer have the bag, as I store my dust in a large bin, but it was 40lbs of the classic powder. That's all the store I use carried.

ETA: I found a stock photo. It's the smaller bag.

I wonder if I got the wrong kind too. I ordered it from a member on the forum and got the brownish/beige also. I don't care for it.

I imagine it has more to do where it was milled, I have some it is brownish/beigeish when next to blue cloud. I have pretty much used it up and will just be stocking up on blue cloud

I have the white kind and I like it. It has helped a lot using it under the litter (pine pellets) and I have used it when I run out of dust. I think it does a decent job especially for pet chins or those not going to show and there is no dust cloud about. I think it's better for my vacuum cleaner too since it doesn't clog up the filters. Blue sparkle in my opinion is still as "dusty" as blue cloud as far as allergies go. The PDZ is larger granules and therefore not in the air, doesn't tend to travel as far outside the dust container.

Edit: PDZ is not as good at cleaning and you probably need to use it more often to keep the chins looking fluffy but it's worth a try for the allergies. The chins don't seem to mind the difference, they roll in it just fine :)

I tried using it under shavings but it caused my chins to constantly roll around in their shavings.

I have gotten a bag that was more beige than white, and one that looked like the color of flour (kind of an off white).

Thank you ever one. I think I am going to give it a try and mix alittle bit of the blue sparkle with it and see how my son does with it.

Mine is the same stuff you have pictured. As stated by others, it's probably a question of where and when it was milled.
I still don't like the "feel" of it on my chins...no matter the color. :tease:

I bought the powder, not the granular and it looked very beige/brown in color. I still have over 35 lbs of it and have no clue of what to do with it. I'd never use it on my chins again. When using it, my chins fur no longer felt soft. It felt very harsh and jagged, even clumpy. The powder felt as if it would never come off their fur. It was much worse than Blue Sparkle, which I'm not a big fan of either, but that's just my personal opinion. As far as allergies go, have you getting your son on allergy medicine?

Probably. I know Peggy had mentioned contacting Tara about the "Right" kind, so I thought maybe that was the problem.

I added mine to my cat's litter box. I also put some in a cup and threw it in my fridge. It acts like baking soda and gets rid of funny smells.

He is allergic to a lot of other stuff as well. The worst of them for him is dust mites, and grasses, trees, rag weed and cats. He gets allergy shots once a week and is on zertec , adavir (allergy’s trigger asthma) and nasal spray. The dust gets him coughing really badly and triggers asthma. I can’t control his outside allergies but I try my best to help him with the inside allergies. We had almost 20 chins. Just five will not be near as much dust also.

I remember hearing a while back that what this stuff is made of is carcinogenic when inhaled.. Personally, after what was presented, talking about all the health risks.. I would not feel comfortable having it in my house. Just my 2 cents.
