    Chin's First Heat Cycle

She redecorates all the time, but she's never mean like that. She has bathroom play time every day after I get off work and has full access to her wheel. Ticklechin, did she react similar to what I'm describing? She's typically full of attitude, but this is bizarre, even for her! And I've seen...

    Chin's First Heat Cycle

So Athena is having her first heat cycle (2 years old), which I think may have been delayed due to malnutrition, & other health issues that happened prior to rescue. We have had a year and a half and have been with her through all of her ups and downs. I have NEVER seen her this awful. She is...

Does your chin use a hammock?

Athena sleeps in her hammock A LOT (hence the profile pic!) She also usually totes her little stuffed monkey up there with her for snuggles(:

How long does it take you to clean a cage?

A quick vacuum, food, and water change every day. Along with the removal of soiled bedding (approx 10 min total). Every Saturday is a complete change out, vacuum, wipedown (30ish min). Every other Saturday, so every 2 weeks, is a complete change out, vacuum, scrub down, and dry (approx 1 hour).

    Dry Skin?

I have no idea what is going on with Athena. She's excessively itchy lately. I mean, my skin is completely dried out, part of living in Alaska. Could she also be suffering from this? She was fine during the summer time, and her amount of dust bathing has not changed :( Any suggestions??

    Vet Before Trip?

So, if you've seen any post from me recently, you know that my husband and I are embarking on a cross country move from Alaska to Kentucky with our dear Athena in November. I was wondering if it is suggested to take her for a checkup or anything before or after the trip? She won't need any...

    Toys Question

Okay toymakers, quick question for you guys. What kind of dyes do you use to color your wooden toys? We would like to become a little more self sufficient with Athena's toys and would like to have more toys available to her that we can trust 100%. I'm fully aware of all the safe and toxic...

    Chinchillas as tech pets

My mind was completely blown trying to read this and seeing something that I would NEVER do with my chin in, hmm, let's say... Every sentence... Those poor poor babies :(

    Extreme Winter Travel!!

My hubby was wanting to cut through and down into N. Dakota because it's the "quicker" route to Kentucky and he really doesn't want to be on the road in Canada too long. Simply for safety reasons. I've heard both are pretty, but pretty miserable if winter is already in full swing! It's already...

    Check your chin teeth!

Thank you! I'll definitely check her food and hay. Because they're both high quality brands. And yeah this past winter got down to -60F.. Not for this chick!!

    Check your chin teeth!

My Athena gets everything she needs. But this morning I checked her teeth and they were only dark orange on the center part of each tooth and white on either side. MAIN SIGN OF CALCIUM DEFICIENCY IN A CHIN!! Needless to say, she already has the mineral rocks, but we purchased a different kind...

    They escaped!

Our cage had to have a padlock on each door... And Athena broke one of the bars at the corner of the cage and got out that way.. Where there is a will, there is a way. Just keep an eye on them and keep a check for weak areas on their cage!

    mouse in Bella's cage

I agree with the guard, but also try to keep her up on a table or something away from walls and stacked items. You need to try to keep Bella as protected as possible because there are soooooooo many diseases that mice/rats can carry. Especially if they aren't of the pet variety, because lord...
