Shipping costs

Hi i have a few questions, I am selling a few things and have honestly never really sold large items. How do you all get cheaper shipping rates.
Especially to like canada. I am trying to get a quote for like 8lbs to canada and ups is like 80 bucks, NO WAY!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Isnt there like flat rate boxes or something with a flat rate price!! I know when i buy things shipping isnt too much.

Shipping to Canada through Paypal is horrible. There is a first class mail to Canada, but you have to go to the post office to get the price. 8 lbs is too much for first class though and its $32 for 8 lbs shipped to Canada. There is a flat rate box (same as the regular flat rate) shipped to Canada and I think its a little over $25.95.
