I have a QC Mansion and Townhome that I hope to renovate within the next month for the girls and have a question concerning wood ledges.

My dad has agreed to help me make my own replacement ledges for the cages and the question he has if Poplar can be more durable than dried Pine? Any thoughts/advice is appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Poplar can be used, but I don't think it's really any more durable. It honestly all comes down to how much your chins chew. I just redid all my shelves a few months ago. For the most part, they're fine, except for 2 or 3 areas where the chins have ripped into them, and one of those that's been ripped into isn't a shelf I made, but a ledge I bought.

I have both pine and poplar in my QC. They both are getting chewed up the same amount. However, poplar is definitely harder to cut and attach hanger bolts or nails to than pine is.
