My new mother chinchilla's (she's 1.5 y.o. and had the kits 3 weeks ago) right eye has been looking sort of wet for the past few months, but this morning it was sort of shut with a transparent mucus, thicker than usual. Should I take her to a vet? Has this happened to anyone before?

If it has been happening for the past few months, yes, a vet visit is in order. She could have a scratched eye, an infection, or even teeth problems. Make sure to find a chin savvy vet though! Good luck, hope she gets better soon.

Yes, take her to the vet. Especially since she's got babies in with her. It might be transmittable and I wouldn't want the kits getting sick since they're still babies.

If I take Speedy (the mom) to the vet, is it okay to leave Jack, Janet and Chrissy (the kits) at home if they are 3 weeks old?
