Is Crape Myrtle safe??

Does anyone know if Crape Myrtle wood is safe for chins?? My Dad has some of these trees that need to be pruned and it would be a waste to throw it away if the chins can nibble on it.

According to some bird sites it is. Myrtle is not safe for birds, but apparently Crape Myrtle is different

Perhaps if you can be sure that is what it is, it might be okay. Personally I like to stick to the tried and true, but I think it seems to be the case that if it's safe for a bird, it's most likely okay for chins.
