Hi everyone!!
My name is Jodi and I'm from Illinois. I'm new to the chin world as we just brought our 2 baby boys home last week. Ben is a standard male & Jerry is a hetero ebony male. Ben was born Aug 21st and Jerry was born Sept 1st. The boys have a 3 tier "chinchillin' mansion" built by my husband. We are having Soooo much fun with our little boys and I'm addicted to this site to learn all I can!!!
Does anyone out there live in IL (Will County) and have a vet they love?? I do have a vet that "will treat chins" but I don't think he sees them often (more of a cat & dog vet) & I would like to find one I can trust if or when I would ever need.

P.S. If a profile pic posted, that is my Jerry :)

Hi and welcome and congrats on your new additions! I would love to see a pic of your chinchillin mansion!

Jenn-

A pic of the "chinchillin' mansion" is on my profile page. It's a sideways pic & it was taken b4 we brought the boys home - so no bedding & few toys. It's not as bare now!!!

I'm not too computer savvy so I'm having trouble posting pics. Wondering why if you go on my profile you can see my pic of jerry but it doesn't come up w/ my replies??

I like to show my pics by uploading them to photobucket.com, then copy and pasting the link from there directly into my posts.

There is also a button towards the middle of the page when you are typing a post or reply, in the additional options box. If you click on the button named "Manage Attachments", you can find the picture file on your computer and attach the picture to your posts. :))

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I live near Orland Park, IL, not too far from Will County and as far as vets are concerned you may need to travel an hour or so each way if you want a very knowledgeable chinchilla vet. I have personal experience with only 2 vets that I would recommend and another member on this forum that I know has recommended a vet that took very good care of a chin that suffered some trauma to the face.

Here are my two -

I recommend Dr. Betsy Clarkson. I dealt with 3 vets at this location and Dr. Clarkson, one of the senior vets there, was the best for what my malo chin needed.
1. Midwest Bird & Exotic Animal Hospital
7510 W North Ave
Elmwood Park, IL 60707

2. Dr. Dave Ihrke is knowledgeable with chinchillas and is the only vet at this location that I would let see my chinchilla. IMO I would only use him as an emergency vet since he is the closest to you.
Colonial Manor Animal Hospital
13726 W. 159th Street
Homer Glen, IL 60491

The vet another member here recommended is Dr. Ness

Hi Jodi, I went to your profile page and love your chinchillin mansion!!! Your husband did a wonderful job!!! Stackie described how to post pics, so hopefully you won't have any more problems...once you get one down then the rest are easy :) Now we need a new pic of your mansion with all the new goodies in it, including you boys!!!

Hi Jodi, welcome to CnH! I had a little trouble figuring out the profile pic thing when I first joined. If you want a pic to show up with your postings, its your avatar you need to edit. Hope to see pics of the boys soon!

Stackie - Thanks for the info on posting pics! Hopefully, I'll be a pro soon.

Sandi - Thanks for the info on the vets. Hopefully, I won't be in need of one anytime soon! I used to live in Orland a long time ago & my children still go to our pediatrician in Homer Glen so I'm somewhat familar w/ the area.

Jenn- Thanks for the compliment on the house. My husband loves to build things & he worked really hard on it.

Welcome Jodi! I'm in southeastern Wisconsin pretty darn close to the Illinois border!

I grew up in Will County (Naperville)! I know someone who is a vet tech for a vet in Kendall County (Oswego) This vet takes care of her pet chinchillas but I'm not sure if he is a specialist. If you are interested I'd be happy to get you the info. Also, Dawnna lives in Will County (Naperville-Bolingbrook area I believe) her website is www.chocolatechinchillas.com if you contact her I bet she could give you some recomendations.

Thanks momenteller!!!!! I finally got the avatar figured out. :)
