My chinchillas love almonds as treat, but they are very expensive. Are there any places in the central valley of CA that sell culled almonds? like packing houses and such. And would they be chin safe?

Most owners don't feed nuts since they are high in fat and chins are not made to process fat, long term it can cause issues with the liver, just a FYI!

Most nut manufactures sell the broken pieces in bulk, like 25lbs and up. Have you tired Trader Joes? There is one in Modesto and the nut prices are pretty good.

I'd go with a small piece at a time, as well. But, just maybe once every two weeks. With treats the issue is mostly that people will not feed them in moderation and give way too much. Definitely with the almonds, not everyday and just a little piece at a time. Trader Joes has raw nuts that are pretty fresh...other stores, it seems, keep the nuts on the shelf too long and they get stale. You probably only want to get just a small amount anyway, right?
