I suggest the vet as well. My chin had an abcess recently and it took 3 weeks to heal completely. She needed antibiotics and a topical cream. She is fine now, but the vet did clean the abcess for us.
Your welcome. I always saw Dr. Schwartz, but there is a new one there who sees exotics too. I moved to Michigan a year ago and had to find a new vet. I found a good one, but more expensive than the one in LA.
Try the Overland Animal Clinic in the Palms area of LA I believe. The vet I saw was great and he was reasonable for a visit. I never needed any testing though. I would trust this vet more than VCA. They are also open seven days a week. Hope this helps!
I would Google pet sitters in the Chicago area. I just took a quick look and one was offering visits for 25 minutes per day for small critters. It is not the best not to be able to board, but places are so hard to find. I live 2.5 hours away from you and know of no boarding near here. I just...
I have both types of cages and prefer Quality. Customer service is good. Cage is easier to clean and comes chin proof (as long as you order the package with a metal food dish). My little girls have always had it so they do not know the difference. The big reason I like it is craftsmanship...
This is the first year my chins will be living in a town that snows. I have to use the central heat. I was wondering what temperature you all in cold weather set the thermostat to. I have let it go no higher than 68. They are not in front of the vents. Also we are traveling for three weeks...
I strongly suggest the wall unit. I lived in a third floor apartment in LA and that worked well. All of the first floor units had them as well. I lived in an area with an urban feel and there were never any safety concerns. I would try that.

So we took the girls to the vet and they charged $65 to examine one and weight all three. She seemed pretty competent, but for after hours care and complex surgeries/diagnostics we will have to drive to Grand Rapids an hour away. At least our girl looked healthy!
Thanks for the input so far. Please feel free to keep posting. The other vet in the area that says they treat exotics didn't know how to handle a guinea pig according to my pet sitter. I don't have much faith they can treat chinchillas then. I may have to go with the expensive vet. At least...
Hi...long time reader of board, but new to posting. I just moved and have 3 chins soon to be adopting 4 more babies in a seperate cage. I want to establish care with a local veternarian. I was wondering what you all pay for a regular checkup vet visit. I was told the cost was $73 for one...
