About to lose my chin :(

I'm so sorry to hear it; i wish i had the right words, but we're going though a similar spell ourselves with the chin we've had the longest. It's so hard...We had to put our cat to sleep several months ago as well, and i'm still a mess over it. just know you're not alone in your difficulties...

I don't think my chins will ever love me :(

We have 7 chins, and they've been in our family from 3 to 7 years, and each and every one of them not only each took different amounts of time to get used to us, but also have distinctly different personalities. The first and oldest, C.C., took about a month and a half before she'd come up to...

    A sad day likely coming...

Hi everyone...I know I seldom post on here, but you've all always been a great source of information over the past seven years since we adopted our first chinchilla, C.C. I've never said much about our chins, all of which are rescues, but I don't think tomorrow will be a good day for us...

    Buzzing sound

One of our newest rescues does the same thing, though he's done it since we first picked him up. Of the other six, one will make the same kind of noise when she's annoyed with something (or someone), but this one just seems to like making it. I can't tell yet if it's his equivalent of "please...

    Calling in her sleep

We have a couple that bark in their sleep, and one which, twice now, has woken us up with blood-curdling cries, to have us rush down and, when we get down there and turn on the light, we have seven chins staring at us from their cages, wondering why we turned the light on. Because whichever one...

Just wondering...is building the 2nd cage faster than the first?

Yeppers, I skipped the instructions for 2 and 3, but the rubber mallet was a day saver. :D

    too tired?

Mine usually get between 1-2 hours out of the cage, and we started our surprise baby chin on about that length as well after about 4 months, when we let her mommy out to play. The room is usually kept at 70. I know when one of them wears themselves out, they usually have a lie down for a bit...

Do chins and cats get along??

We have both a cat and 7 chinchillas, and, oddly enough, our cat prefers to ignore or actively avoid the chins where she can. At most, she's given one a swat (she's de-clawed) when it got too close for her liking. So it depends upon the cat, but _I_ certainly wouldn't otherwise risk it without...

    Any input on this cage?

Like I said, we've got three, and they hold together great! There can be some difficulty putting them together without the use of a rubber mallet or hammer, because sometimes the metal cones (for lack of a better term) that connect the pieces are welded on slightly crooked or get bent in...

    When good popcorns go bad...

My favourite is when our dark ebony chin ran into a box in a playpen, and popcorned within it. The whole box just popped up and scared the *&)(*^&(* out of us. He's done it a couple of times since then, but never when we have a camera handy.

    Any input on this cage?

I think FN182=CN162, because I believe the 142 is their older cage requiring tools? I don't remember exactly. I posted somewhere else, but we got each of our CN162s at PetStreetMall.com, where it was for sale at $234.95 with free shipping. We just got our third one yesterday. :)

    Barking Chinchilla.

It may be that she likes the attention and is training you. :D

    New Chinchilla Behavior Questions

Most of ours only nip when our hands smell of food, or when we're holding them and they want to be put down, but it's never come close to drawing blood. I think if ours got to that level of aggravation they would be expressing their displeasure in other ways first. Given they all have their...

    Are Petsmart chins okay?

Petsmart, breeder, rescue, like others have said, find one that connects with you. We've taken as rescues ones the former owners got from breeders, as well as former Petsmart chins, and love them all. Every chin has its own personality. We got our black one (dark ebony?) from a shelter one...

Some tech resources for AC crisis

I'm with you on that one! Though I consider myself less "nerd" and more "da Vinci-esque". :D My wife put the kibosh on my attempts at experimenting with an Arduino processor and cellular modem because there was soldering involved. I haven't even started any fires yet!
