    Loud noises at bedtime. Help!

It's perfectly normal for chins to make random noises. Sometimes it is because they heard something other times they might just want attention. I really don't think covering the cage will stop the noises. If you do decide to cover it, make sure the material is chin safe since your chin will most...

    not really chewers?

I only have 1 girl and 6 boys and she chews more than all the boys put together! The amount of chewing the boys do varies, but everyone seems to love apple sticks especially. Most only take the bark off and never touch the rest of the stick again. I also give them all pumice stones, which they...

    Chins Outside?

Chins outside is a VERY BAD idea! As others said, chins are pretty delicate. They need a stable environment plus if they're outside there is always a chance they will get wet and that isn't good for them.

    Chin breeds

I agree. First 2 are standards and the 3rd is a hetero beige. Also they are all the same breed, just different color mutations. :)

Fungus/Ringworm infection two chin's one cage.

I used flowers of sulfur when my one boy got ringworm. I think it was like a teaspoon for a cup of dust, but I'm not positive. You can get it really easy from Amazon.com. It cleared him up really quickly and his fur started growing back within a week. You can also use it on the chin without...

    Male Chinchilla Question

Some chins are more private about their cleaning sessions than others. I have 4 boys and have only caught one cleaning a couple times.

    Chinchilla wheel question

The biggest silent spinner wheel they make is 12" and that is too small for a chinchilla. Chinchillas need at least a 14" wheel, with nothing sticking out in the center of the wheel. Chinchillas hop when they run and petstore wheels impair their ability to run normally and cause back problems...

    not really chewers?

I have 4 boys and 1 girl. The boys all chew sticks when I hand them out at night but for the most part leave their wooden furniture alone. My girl on the other hand is a chewaholic. She will destroy anything she can chew. She's like a furry termite.

    Free feed or scheduled?

I give each of my boys about 2 tablespoons of pellets each at night and they get all they hay they want all day long. They do not waste any pellets, I think they see it as a treat. :) They are both healthy and gaining weight each month, 6 and 10 months old. They are also very active and run on...

My chinchilla keeps sneezing and scratching

I still wouldn't dust them more than every other day possibly only 2-3 times a week. Chins love their dust baths and will over dust if you let them.

    Introducing Chins to Cats

I have 2 chins in a double CN in my room with 2 cats. I have never had a problem, the bars are spaced close enough that the cats can't get their paws though. They like to sit and stare at the chins, but the chins are used to it and ignore them.

    Ringworm Help

I'm going through the same thing with my new chin Oreo. I ordered some sulfur powder (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003OJDA4M/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00) off of Amazon. My question is, is it the right sulfur? It says its ok for consumption in the description, but when I got it in the mail it...

    Fruit Flavored Wood??

You would have to check what kind of wood it is made out of. If it doesn't say what kind of wood it is, which I've found most things at the petstore don't, I wouldn't buy it. Also you have to wonder how much sugar they put in the flavoring. Chins can't digest sugars well at all. Here is a list...

The "Am I Doing It Right" Thread

I have seen my chin make that noise while he is asleep as well as awake. The noise while he is asleep might be chinnie nightmares? But I think he makes the noise while he's awake just to make sure we haven't forgotten he's there. lol

    Vet in Northern Indiana?

I did know about the one in Indianapolis, but that's over 3 hours away from me. I was hoping someone knew of a good one a little closer.

    Vet in Northern Indiana?

Does anyone know of a good chin vet around Fort Wayne or South Bend Indiana? I live right in between the two. There isn't anything wrong with my chin, but I would like to know where to take him if he ever got sick.

    Is his poop normal?

Chins are not supposed to have fruit due to the high sugar content and the fact that they can't digest sugars. for a treat try rose hips, dried rose buds or hibiscus petals once or twice a week. My chin eagerly gobbles up any of these treats!

I'm not sure i'm starting out right

My chin loves to crawl all over me when he is out for playtime and he takes treats from my hand and will even hop out onto my hand, but he isn't a fan of me touching him. It always has to be on his terms. This is just his personality. I take what he will give and love him unconditionally.

    Average cost for Ebony?

Most ebonies I've seen are between $150 and $200. I will be picking up my new baby Dec. 8th. He is a beautiful white ebony and I paid $225 for him.

    Ice Mountain Water?

I know purified water is good for chins, but what about spring water? We drink Ice Mountain brand so it would be easy if I could just give him that. Is there anything bad for chins in it?
