    Biting through the cage

Hi guys. So I have had my two girls, Lilo and Chelsea, for quite some time now. I had tried to introduce them early on when I first got them, but their personalities just didn't seem to click so I resolved to keeping them separated. They share a Ferret Nation cage (one in the top half one in the...

    kit bathing

Twice a week is a good amount. Kits don't need different dust bath times/amounts than adults. As for holding her, I would hold off on that. Try talking to her and then gradually start putting your hands in the cage and letting her jump on them and smell you. After she's ok with jumping on you...

    Quick Question about Ferret Nation

Thanks guys! Until these two decide to get along, they'll be divided. They seem quite happy and I even made some extra ledges to make their halves more exciting. Now I can sell this Feisty Ferret to buy MORE stuff for them. Gosh, chinchilla shopping/decorating is way too fun for me. :)

    Quick Question about Ferret Nation

Would it be alright to split it in half for my two girls? Is one half of it enough space for each one, or will I need to give extra playtime? I currently have my first chin, Lilo, in the top half only of the FN since she's still young (I didn't want her to have so much space to tire herself...

    New pair of older boys

Just for comparison, these are some pictures Chelsea's tail the day I brought her home and today. Her tail was completely bare from her pulling the hair out due to boredom. Two weeks later, the new hairs are already visible :) Like javachin said, if there is scarring it won't grow back. But...

    Clearing the suspicions

For the first "rumor": If you love animals and you have cared for animals before, chinchillas are very easy to care for. Other than specific requirements such as an air conditioned room, a special diet (Mazuri/Oxbow .. no treat filled foods!), and dust baths, etc. their care is very...

    New chin, possibly chins.

Awesome :) I recently acquired two girls, and I'm loving this new world of chinnies. What colors are they?

    Introducing my chinchillas

Thanks for the response, Andrea. Recently, Chelsea tends to hang around the side of her cage closest to Lilo's and tries to get her attention. She doesn't seem to care too much about the bite. Lilo doesn't show any interest in Chelsea at all. Although I do have to admit I have never met two...

    Introducing my chinchillas

So I decided to make a new thread discussing my progress on introducing my two girls, Chelsea and Lilo. Chelsea is approaching 2 years old and Lilo is around 4 months, so I have read that it is easier to introduce a kit and an adult. I currently have their cages next to each other since two...

Getting another chinchilla.. have a few questions!

So I called up and asked and she says the bacteria was normal and was not necessary to treat but that I could treat it if I continue to see her biting at her tail (which I haven't). I think it's safe to say that this was a very bizarre case of obsessive compulsive fur plucking. :D

She did not say. I will call up and ask

Getting another chinchilla.. have a few questions!

Okay so the results are back... nothing came up on the fungal slides but apparently there are some signs of bacteria. The vet says she recommends bactine or a non-medicated antibacterial. What are your opinions on this? Is it worth treating this bacteria or just let it be? Stacie, wow that's a...

    Making Wooden Shelving

I know there has to be a thread on here on how to make wooden shelves, but I can't seem to find it. Could anyone link me to it? Thanks!!

Getting another chinchilla.. have a few questions!

Will do! :) She's quite the sweetheart as well, she can't get enough scritches! I'll let everybody know the results of the tests when they come back!
