I see lots of people on the forum using woods such as apple, crapabble, manzanite, etc. I was checking the safe wood list and saw that birch and poplar are on the list. We have these trees in ABUNDANCE here.

Do chins like these woods? Are they more for shelving or can they be used as a chew stick too? Birch has white paper like bark so would you remove it before baking?

I would stay away from white birch bark as a glycoside in the bark decomposes to produce methyl salicylate, the natural forerunner of synthetic aspirin.
