Wire floor covering help

Hi everyone,

I recently got a new cage for one of my chinchillas that i'm setting up for her, however it has a wire floor which definitely looks unsafe to me. I've been trying to figure out the best way to cover it and I just can't figure it out. I have a wooden ledge that will cover about 2/5 of it.

I know fleece is a popular option and my chinchilla is litter trained so she wouldn't be peeing on it often (I think) but my concern with the fleece is how to get the hay out of it for washing? She occasionally pees on her discarded hay so i'm unsure about how to clean the fleece if I do end up using it.

Ideally i'd like something waterproof and wipe-able, any ideas?

I've attached photos of the floor and how my cage set up is coming along, I have lots more wooden shelves to go in. It was my first time making all the wooden cage accessories myself!

Some people tile the floor of the cage. Since you have grating and a pan under it anyway you probably could just get tiles cut to fit the bottom and just set them on the grating, any pee accidents would just drip through the cracks between the tile into the pan below. If you just have them fit snug not stuck down you can pull them out to wipe them clean as needed.

Thank you for the tile suggestion, I actually have a large leftover tile from renovating the bathroom that I can use. Between that and the wood and a little bit of fleece to cover a gap it will all be covered. I might get some tiles that will fit the whole floor at some point in the future.
