whining like a dog???

My chin just woke me up to a strange sound. He has never made this sound before. He was whining like a dog but as soon as I went over and checked on him he stopped.what should I do? Should I be worried? What does it mean?

I just posted about this! My chinchilla let out a long wail/moan thing. Never heard him do it before. Barking yes, moanin no.

My chin Carl does this every now and again at night. I think they hear something that startles them. Something maybe we can't here? Or they're just being brats I wouldn't worry too much. I use to get up to check on him and each time he'd be sitting there like "what do you want?" So now I just say "it's ok Carl" and he settles down.
