What's wrong with Alfalfa?

Hi!
Well I've read on here that if you have an Alfalfa based pellet you should feed another hay like Timothy. But, what exactly is the problem if you feed Mazuri (a alfalfa based diet) with alfalfa hay? Why is it not recommended?

Alfalfa is higher in protein. Too much protein is not good for chins. It is a legume. Timothy is a grass hay.

Nothing, if you have a pellet hog its getting a full alfalfa diet, there are many ranches/breeders who feed only pellets or only pellets with alfalfa cubes and no grass hay. Chins do fine. I feed a alfalfa pellet and 50/50 grass hay and loose alfalfa.

I've seen chins on an alfalfa pellet + alfalfa hay get very small poops, if that happens just give them less hay or a different variety. Otherwise it doesn't matter.
