What a weird thing to do

Sometimes when Marble grooms himself he barks at himself in protest because he either pulls his fur or pulls on his own tail. At first i thought he had some sort of sore but there is nothing on his tail or anywhere on his butt where he was grooming. He also chases his tail sometimes but that's a different story.

Anyone know why he'd be doing this or have a chin that does this?

My Tubby also does that: barking while grooming himself. I think it's because he's pulling on some tangled/matted fur. It's no different than why it hurts when we pluck our hair. My other chinchilla, Winnie, he barks when he's cleaning his private parts.
