We are excited to welcome Lucy into our family. She is an 8 year old hetero beige female with a curly tail who is retired from breeding.

There is a chance she is pregnant, so we are counting the days to see if kits appear or not. But she is done with breeding because her last birth was difficult for her.

She resides on the top of a 3-level FN cage. Below on levels 1 and 2 are Wally and Orville, teenage boys.

She seems to be adjusting well and is eating hay and pellets like there's no tomorrow!

When I picked her up to put her into the cage, she was shaking. I think she was just scared. She doesn't seem to know how to use her chew toys yet, but hopefully she will learn!

Congrats on the new chin!

Since she may be pregnant, you will want to make that cage baby-safe. The wire spacing of your cage is far too large and a kit can squeeze right through them. Many people wrap the FN's in hardware cloth to make them baby safe. You will also want to remove any shelves and wheels until you are sure she is not pregnant or until after she has given birth and the kits are large enough.

Thank you for your input! Yes, I plan to go to Lowe's or Mendards to find some hardware cloth. I am going to remove the high ledges, but I'd really like to keep the ones that are just three inches off the ground for right now. If she gives birth then I will definitely remove them.

If this is a terrible idea, please let me know and I'll remove all of them. I just think she'd be so bored with zero ledges.
