my chinchilla will get up on my legs/arms and start scratching vigorously. he does it whenever he sees bare skin. he scratches really fast and looks like hes trying to hold on because hes falling off. i heard it was because of his age, hes about 8-9 monthes old. will he grow out of it?

Sounds like your chinnie is a little frustrated!! He's probably realizing he is a boy!! You are his sweetie for now. Most chinnies out grow the phase, a few do not. Don't encourage him to do this behavior as it can escalate and turn to nibbles. Every time he does it, distract him doing something else. That should help.
