Was he choking??

My chin was acting very strange suddenly, he had his ears pulled down, he was stretching his neck out and it seemed like he was having difficulty breathing. I quickly grabbed him (Safely) and began massaging his neck (gently) and he perked up after a few rubs and started trying to get loose so I set him down. He seems happy now and is running around again. Was he choking? Has anyone ever experienced this?? I was really scared and acted quickly just hoping. I called my vet and the exotic pet vet was not on call and the emergency vet had no experience. I live in a rather small city. Any ideas are welcome.

Water went down the wrong pipe-meaning he sucked water into his airway during drinking happens, same thing with eating. If it happens on a regular basis it points to teeth issues.
