i have a chin that i got that was sick and i have been fighting. URI for about 2-3 weeks now. we started on trib via vet advice. it didnt work so i had to go to vet everyday and get him a shot of baytril. it cleared up and he is eating normal and pooping and chewing normal but still has minor eye discharge and wheezing i believe. i cant tell if its wheezing or jus sniffing because i dont hear it at the cage just when i have him in my hands or on my shoulder. any advice. i would love to find a way that i could cure him a home being a shot is 14 a piece and im in 200 already but the question is can i just buy baytril or is that something that just vets have access too? any other advice on how to help this guy fight his infection?

Baytril is what you use for URIs in most cases, those of us who use it use injectable and we give it at home. I had a 21 day supply plus tons left over and I paid 34.00, the u-30 insulin needles I had in stock and I bought them online.

ok thanks ill talk to the vet when i take him today to see if i can buy some from them or do u know where i could get some else where if they will not sell it.

The only way you can buy baytril is if you have a prescription for it. It would be best just to get it from the vet so you know you are getting the right dose.

are you sure that the chin isnt just making little chinnie sounds?? have you checked the sound resource? you said you only hear it when you are holding him. just curious.

ok update. took him to vet yesterday and they said he is fine a little eye discharge is normal? also he has lost weight and this is the only thing they were worried about. is there any tips you would have for putting some weight back on him. all together he has lost 60 grams and i feel like thats alot for justva months time! is there a way to make the food more appealing to eat? thanks for any help u can offer

Have you tried offering some loose alfalfa hay? Most chins really like it. Alfalfa is rich in nutrients. It also stimulates appetite and promotes weight gain.

You may also consider using a herbal supplement. You can have a look at Herbal Appetite Stimulant / Weight Gain Supplement and Herbal Immune Support.

Herbal Immune Support enhances chins' immune system and supplies them with needed nutrients. It's especially beneficial for animals who suffer from eye infections, URI, and other health problems. Can be used in addition to prescribed medications for a faster recovery.

I do not think that to have eye discharge/watery eyes is normal.
