How far apart do you guys space your ledges? I usually do mine about 8 inches. I know they're not supposed to be too far apart so in case a chin falls, but I'm not entirely sure what "too far" apart really means! 6 inches? 10? A foot?

It depends on how big your cage is, really. If it's shorter, that's not some much of a worry. I prefer to have one large, long shelf with littler ledges spaced at intervals. I prefer about 6 inches to 8 inches, to answer your question.

It's a typical 2-level Ferret Nation. I asked the question because I'm redesigning my chin's cage and half the time he skips ledges I intended as a midpoint, so he's jumping 12-15 inches at time. Maybe I should take the extra ledges out if they're spaced too closely together? Add more hammocks as fall-breakers? Hmm....
