I recently bought my first timothy hay by the bale this week and noticed some seed pods in it that rattle when I pick them up - these are not the actual seed heads of the hay (corn cob looking things) but are kind of pointed...I can try to post a picture...

Any ideas what this might be? I have been picking them out because I dont know what they are.

Can you get a picture of them? Our hay does have the ends of the hay in them (sorry for the lack of a good description). They don't rattle though.. not sure of what that might be..

Seed heads of hay should just look like grass when it goes to seed. I have no idea what the things you described could be. A picture would really help.

If they're dark brown, about 2 inches long and an inch wide, I believe they're from milkweed - just saw some yesterday, at a friends farm!
