Hi All,

I was just curious if anyone knew what the requirements are to become a judge either in MCBA or ECBC? Are the requirements different? Once you become a judge can you judge for either MCBA or ECBC? Does a judge have to do anything on a yearly basis to stay an active judge?

Cheryl

For MCBA, you have to belong for a certain amount of time (5 years maybe??). Then, you ask either Rich or BethAnn for permission to be a trainee. You have to trainee judge under as many people as possible, which means you'll have to travel to as many shows as possible. You'll also have to do some pelt judging with Rich. After you've met the requirements, you can ask to be "tested". If you pass, you are a judge. You could also be asked to wait another year and keep working on it. If you train with ECBC, you are automatically set to judge for us also. They don't so the same, though.

Oops- yes you do. I don't remember the numbers, but it's not huge. The problem would be that you can't show at shows where you trainee judge, so it usually means that you need the 1st place animals at Nationals (since you can't trainee judge at Nationals).

In summary:

The main requirement to be an ECBC Trainee Judge:
Must be a current member of ECBC for a minimum of 5 years and show in sanctioned shows two consecutive years, and must have at least ten Standard and ten Mutation animals or pelts, combined for two years, receiving first place or better in a multiple ribbon show.

To become a Sanctioned / Authorized Judge:
The Trainee has to have judged with four different ECBC-authorized judges (at sanctioned shows) and received positive reviews. They must assist in the judging of three each of the following ECBC-sanctioned shows: (1) Standard Animal, (2) Mutation Animal. They must also attend two judging seminars. Once they have made it through the seminars and review process, they are required to take a "hands on" test at the Annual Meeting and from there the Board of Directors will approve/not-approve the candidate as an Authorized Judge.
