How are pedigrees established? If you start with non-pedigreed animals, can you ever establish a pedigree for your line? Is this something that can be accomplished over a period of generations? Are vet visits required to certify that an animal carry genetic problems?

Pedigrees for chins are established by listing the family history of a chin. If the information you have for an animal is for example: Chin was bred by ******* ranch and the pedigree was lost then that's what you would list for one of the parents of a chin born of your breeding. After you have bred several generations of chins bred by you the line becomes yours. Vet visits are not required to certify an animal does not carry genetic problems. There is no way to certify an animal does not carry genetic problems at this time.
