My poor rescue. :(

A few of you may already know this, but i am getting a new baby in October.
I was also going to get one of her rescues, a nine month old blind hedgie named Bob.

But, the breeder emailed me yesterday and told me that Bob had stopped eating. She took him to the vet, who couldnt find anything wrong. Soon after that, he stopped drinking.

Unfortunately, Bob died yesterday. The breeder told me the vet thought he could have been depressed.

Can hedgehogs really be depressed enough to die, and what causes them to be depressed?

I'm just curious, and dont want it to happen to any of my babies.

I think he went blind very soon after he was born due to bad shavings?
thats all i was told.
his whole litter went blind because of it.

Omg! What shavings??? I'd like to know so that I don't buy them. I'm so sorry for your loss. Something similar happened with the last hedgie I was supposed to get. At least you didn't bring him home and get attached to him. Best wishes and best of luck to you for your next one!

They were wood shavings.
They had a mite outbreak.
