Mastitis?

What does mastitis look like? I have a nursing mother with a 2 week old kit. One of her tits is enlarged. It isn't red or hot and doesn't seem painful to touch. The kit is nursing and gaining steadily.

Is she nursing one kit? Sometimes they use only one nipple and it does get longer with use as she nurses. Mastitis usually shows up with lack of milk (so kits will fight, not gain weight, or she can even bite at the area due to pain). It can get hard or lumpy as well. If she is acting well and the kit is gaining, I would not worry. Obviously if you have any doubts a vet visit is best. The only problem is there are limited meds a nursing mom can take
