Litter Tray

So I set up a litter tray for Alice, my hedgie filled it with 4cm of Chinchilla sand and put some of her poop in the sand as instructed by the breeder .. but she seems to have adopted the tray as a bed, as well as a digging pit any ideas on why she's doing this ? and how else I will be able to litter train her
