Lemon wood shavings?

Hi all,

I accidentally bought lemon scented wood shavings today for my chinchillas litter pan >__< I don't know if these are suitable at all, would you say these are bad? Thanks

I would hesitate to use any scented shavings, because the chemicals used to scent them could be toxic. I am always one to error on the side of caution.

I've never heard of lemon scented shavings, but I would say not good, if for no other reason then you want the litter pan to be a recognizable smell for the chin. You really don't want anything added to the shavings either, what is used to scent them? It might not be safe to eat if your chin tries to nibble on it since it has a new smell, or could encourage them to eat the shavings.
