I can't afford the metal flying saucer right now. What is the next best thing?

Are the plastics ones ok for the time being? I would like some sort of exercise toy in the cage....

No, the plastic ones are too small. The plastic flying saucers aren't even sturdy enough to stand while the chins run on them (if they can even do that) and plastic poses an impaction danger if they chew and ingest it.

Best bet is just save your money for a good quality metal one. They'll be ok without a wheel for the time being. :))

Lots of chins live their whole lives without wheels and do just fine. Yes, it is nice for them to have, but it's not worth getting one which is a) dangerous and b) won't last more than a couple months.
Saving up for a good wheel is worth it because they last for a life time (well, a chin's life time at least)
$25 for 2 months, or $75 for 10 years?
