I have a 7-year-old female and she suffers from hydrometra. When it happens, her uterus is filled with clear, non-infected fluid which takes a couple of days to come out. It's little bit painful and of course she finds wet fur very, very upsetting. She can't sleep but runs and hops around in her cage making constant unhappy noises. Fortunately she won't lose her appetite and drinks lots of water, too.

This begun 8 months ago and happened 3 times since. Our excellent vet said there's a risk the fluid won't come out by itself - in that case it will be infected (and you know what that means!). :( She also said that to avoid the risk spaying would be a good choice.

However, I'm extremely afraid to do that. It's risky and painful. I know my chin will be deeply depressed during the long healing process (she can't take any pain at all). Will she even make it!?

My chin lives (happily) with another female and haven't had any kits.

What would you do?
