How do you wrap a cage with hardware cloth?

I've seen this suggested as a way to reduce bar-spacing, but since I'm utterly incompetent at DIY stuff, can't seem to figure out how to actually do it. Fortunately it's not urgent or anything (least, I hope not...getting slightly neurotic about it, lol). You use 1/2" wire, is that right? And wrap it round the inside? How do you get it to stay put, and do you cut it in separate panels, or one piece? Not sure what to use to cut it, or how to avoid any jagged edges.

I guess you have to take the shelf out, or would separate panels for above and below work? I'd rather leave the shelf in for now if possible since it was hard to attach.

The cage is very similar to a FN (it's split so only using half at the moment), though with only one door which will probably make it trickier to get any wire in.

I think I get the idea of how to do it (will just a file work for sharp edges?), but then I read that zinc is used in galvanised metal? Will that be safe?

One chin isn't much of a chewer I don't think, but the other really is. Probably won't deliberately chew metal still, but does often stick nose through bars.
